The full form of B.Sc. is Bachelor of Science. The Latin name for the B.Sc. degree is Baccalaureus Scientiae. A B.Sc. is a three-year undergraduate degree program for high school science students. Physical science, applied science, chemistry, mathematics, economics, biology, agriculture, horticulture, and animation are among the major topics covered in the B.Sc. course.

In most cases, students receive two B.Sc. degrees: B.Sc. with Honors and B.Sc. with General (also called B.Sc. Pass) Undergraduate students receive both academic degrees. However, there is a distinction between the two courses.

Types of B.Sc

A bachelor's degree in science or B.Sc is of two types depending up on the mode of study

A regular B.Sc degree is one where candidates have to visit the college regularly and a certain minimum percentage of attendance is compulsory.

However, students who can’t go to college on a regular basis due to some reasons can enroll in a B.Sc correspondence program where there is no compulsion for attending college. Students have to visit the college only at the time of practicals and theory examinations.

Also, depending on the specialisation, a B.Sc degree is also divided into two major types namely

BSc Admission Process

BSc Admissions 2023 are done on the basis of merit as well as on the basis of entrance exams as well. 

  • Merit-Based BSc Admission: Top colleges like Mumbai University, Madras Christian College, etc. take admission based on marks obtained in class 12
  • Entrance Exam-Based BSc Admission: Universities and colleges like Delhi University, IIT Madras, IGNOU, Chandigarh University, etc. conduct their own entrance exams for BSc admission. CUET is one of the popular entrance exams that is accepted by the majority of public and private Universities in India.

B.Sc Eligibility

Students seeking admission to B.Sc degree are required to fulfill some basic requirements before they get admission in any institutes. The requirements are listed below

  • Students need to have passed/studying in class 12 or its equivalent exam from any recognised institution.

  • Some institutions also have restrictions on minimum percentage requirements ranging from 50 to 60% while many institutes require just a pass class in class 12.
