What is Diploma in Pharmacy?

D. Pharm. is a diploma level course for candidates who wish to study pharmacy and begin a career in the medicine field. Pharmacy is a medical field which involves preparing, dispensing and appropriate use of medication meant for various treatment purposes. After completing the D.Pharmacy course, candidates are eligible to become registered pharmacists in India. D. Pharma is a two years long diploma programme. Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is the regulatory body of pharmacy education in India.

D. Pharma can only be offered by colleges and institutes which are approved by the pharmacy council of India (PCI) under sub-section 1 of Section 12 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948. There is no specialisation in D Pharmacy and this course only provides candidates with the basic concepts of pharmaceutical science. D Pharmacy helps students with the necessary knowledge and skill to gain a position at the entry level in pharmaceutical companies. D Pharmacy Scope

After completing D Pharmacy, there awaits numerous scope for candidates, in both the academic and well as job fields. You can pursue them according to your favours and likings,

D Pharma admission to the course is normally determined by a candidate's performance on the D Pharma entrance exam. GPAT, AU AIMEE, and other critical entrance tests are used for the D Pharma admission process. Some colleges also offer merit-based admission. 

The methods for the D Pharma admissions process are listed below.

Admission by Merit List 

  • Submit your D Pharma online application form to the colleges or institutions where you want to study.
  • Pass the Class 12 examinations with flying colors.
  • Colleges will disclose their merit lists in due time. Check to see if you are eligible for the course you want to take.
  • Visit the college and submit all relevant paperwork if you are eligible.

Note: The colleges/universities use the applicants' qualifying exam scores as the major criterion for admission.

Admission by Entrance Exam

The following are the steps to apply for D Pharma entrance exam-based admission.

  • Candidates must register on the D Pharma online application by visiting the conducting body's official website.
  • Completing the D Pharma online application form: Carefully fill out the application form with all of the required information.
  • Documents to be uploaded: All essential papers, such as mark sheets, should be scanned and uploaded. Documents must be uploaded in a format that the institute's application page specifies.
  • Application fee: Payment of the application fee is required.
  • Admit cards are released after all candidates have been assessed for eligibility. To appear for the examination, the admit card must be downloaded, printed, and carried out for the exam.
  • Exam: Study the curriculum and previous exam papers to prepare for the exam. Attend the examination on the scheduled date.
  • After a few weeks from the exam day, the results are announced. If an applicant passes the admission examinations, he or she will advance to the next phase.
  • Counseling and admission: Students who have passed the D Pharma entrance exams are offered to counsel. The student is now eligible to enroll in the D Pharma course.

Note: Several colleges/universities administer an entrance exam for D Pharma admission. Admissions are granted based on the results of the candidates' D Pharma entrance exams.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for D Pharma college admission, those interested in pursuing the course must complete the qualifying standards listed below. As per D Pharma eligibility criteria candidates must fulfill the following:

  • The candidate must have graduated from a recognized board with a Class 12 or equivalent.
  • Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics must have been studied as mandatory subjects.
  • The candidate must have an overall grade point average of at least 50%.
  • Candidates from the SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), differently-abled, and other categories will receive a 10%-mark reduction.

Note: Candidates must meet the mentioned D Pharma eligibility criteria to be accepted for admission to top universities offering a D Pharma course. In addition, candidates must submit the D Pharma online application form to the colleges or institutions they want to study.

Entrance Exams

For D Pharma admission, there are numerous national and state-level entrance tests to take. Some of the most common D Pharma entrance exams are listed here:

AU AIMEE Pharmacy (Annamalai University All India Medical Entrance Exam Pharmacy): AU AIMEE Pharmacy (Annamalai University All India Medical Entrance Exam Pharmacy) is a state-level entrance examination held by Annamalai University every year for admission to various pharmacy programs such as B Pharma, M Pharma, D Pharma, and Pharma D.

GPAT:- The Graduate Pharmacy Admissions Test (GPAT) is a nationwide entrance exam for admission to various pharmacy programs. For admission to D Pharma, several universities compile merit lists based on students' GPAT scores and subsequent group discussions and personal interviews.
