About Us
Ahilya Bai college of Nursing (ABCON) is established by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Govt of Delhi with the aim to to achieve Quality in Nursing Education. The ABCON is situated in MAMC (Maulana Azad Medical College) Campus of central Delhi and it is the core part of Lok Nayak Hospital.
Nursing course offered by the Ahilya Bai College of Nursing is affiliated from University of Delhi and complies with INC and DNC norms.
The Ahilya Bai college of Nursing offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing course which have four academic years, inclusive of internship. The Four Academic year is further divided into 8 semesters. The purpose of the course is to assist the students to become a professional Nurse who is committed to the promotion of health, prevention of disease, care and rehabilitation of the clients. The college provides opportunities for the student to integrate and utilize knowledge, understanding and skills from the various bio-psycho-social fields of learning necessary in the practice of nursing. The curriculum has been planned to provide breadth of knowledge to enable the programme to function effectively in varied nursing situations where the nurse will work as a member of health team for group of patients, families and community at various levels in urban as well as in rural areas.
AHILYA BAI COLLEGE OF NURSING having affiliated hospital for imparting practical training i.e. Lok Nayak Hospital (Formerly known as Irwin Hospital) with 2053 beds, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital with 735 beds and Guru Nanak Eye Centre 212 beds respectively.
The college is also in process of being established as centre for National midwifery training Institute (NMTI) for Nurses by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
The college is also recognized as a programme study centre by IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for conducting post basic B.Sc. Nursing Course.Atraction with intake of 100 students per year. The School of Nursing was upgraded to College of Nursing in 1994, inaugurated by Shri Madan Lal Khurana and named as Lok Nayak Jai Prakash College of Nursing and later it was renamed as AHILYA BAI COLLEGE OF NURSING after the name of “AHILYA BAI” the Holkar Queen of the Maratha Malwa kingdom “Rajmata Ahilyabai”. This occasion was graced by Dr. Harsh Vardhan in 1996.
Ahilya Bai Holkar
Biography
Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar (31 May 1725 – 13 August 1795) was born in the village of Chondi in Jamkhed, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.. Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar (also Ahalya Bai) was the wife of Khanderao Holkar and daughter-in-law of Malhar Rao Holkar I. After the death of her husband and father-in-law, she was crowned as the queen of the Maratha ruled Malwa Kingdom.
In 1766, She became ruler of Malwa, with Tukoji Holkar appointed as her new military head. Receiving the full support of her loyal army, Ahilyadevi led them into several wars, whilst, she being a brave warrior and skilled archer herself, fought with valour atop elephant-back, even protecting her kingdom from the plundering Bhils and Gonds.
Rani Ahilyabai moved her capital to Maheshwar, constructing the splendid 18th century Maratha-architecture based, Ahilya Fort, on the banks of the sacred Narmada River. Besides her capital being an industrial enterprise for textile, it was also a thriving destination for literary, sculpture, music and arts.
A wise, just and enlightened ruler who cared for her people, she was available to the aid of everyone holding a daily public audience in her court. During her glorious reign (1767-1795), Rani Ahilyadevi’s innumerable contributions made her a beloved and respected queen amongst her people in a prospering kingdom.
Ahilyabai Holkar’s magnificent and glorious rule ended when she passed away in 1795. In memory and honour of her greatness, the Republic of India issued a commemorative stamp on 25 August 1996. The citizens of Indore also instituted an award in her name in 1996, to be bestowed annually on an outstanding public figure, the first recipient of it being Nanaji Deshmukh.
The Queen of Malwa was also an experienced diplomat, apart from being a brave queen and a proficient ruler. During her 28-year rule, Indore prospered, from a small village to a flourishing city. She was regarded as one of the finest female rulers in the Indian History.

AIM and Objective of the Programme
The aim of the undergraduate nursing program is to:-
- Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, curative and rehabilitative services.
- Prepare nurses who can make independent decision in nursing, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health function in the hospital, community health nursing service and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor and manage clinical/public health setting.
On completion of the four year B.Sc. Nursing programme the graduate will be able to:
- Apply knowledge from physical biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative system and Nursing for providing care to individual families and communities.
- Demonstrate understanding of lifestyle and other factors, which affect health of individual and groups.
- Provide nursing care base on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.
B.Sc.Hons. Nursing Programme is an undergraduate programme in nursing of 4 year duration which is divided in 8 semesters. This is a regular, in-campus course. Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme was designed to provide opportunity to a large segment of in-service nurses to upgrade their knowledge and skill to respond to the changing health needs of the society. Admission Requirements
The minimum educational requirements( any of the one)
- Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 Years Course)
- Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2), Pre-Degree Examination (10+2)
- An equivalent with 12 years schooling from recognized board or university with science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and English with minimum of 50% aggr. Marks (PCBE).
The minimum age of admission shall be 17 years on or before 1st October of the year of admission.
Candidate should be medically fit. (Subject to medical examination)
