Introduction

IIT Gandhinagar was founded in 2008 and is located in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat on the banks of river Sabarmati. IITGN is rated India’s first 5-star GRIHA LD (Green) campus for minimizing the negative impact on the environment. The campus has been declared India’s first 5-star campus for ensuring food safety and promoting healthy eating.

The Institute follows the highest standards of safety for its employees engaged in construction activities. In this context, the IIT Council declared that the exemplary practices of IIT Gandhinagar (labor welfare and community outreach) should be introduced in all IITs.

History

IIT Gandhinagar is one of the eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2008. The institute began operating in a temporary campus at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda, mentored by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The first batch of students was admitted to three programmes: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

IITGN was included in the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012. The IIT Gandhinagar campus is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River in Palaj village. In 2011, in his inaugural speech at the Amalthea technology summit, then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi spoke of the land for the new permanent campus, saying, "the state government has decided to give land on 99 year lease with a token amount of just one rupee for setting up a campus of IIT-Gandhinagar." The institute took possession of over 400 acres of land in August 2012, and classes and other activities on the new campus began in July 2015.

The 400-acre campus of IITGN is situated on the banks of Sabarmati river in Palaj village. The campus has three rough divisions: Academic Block, Housing Block and Student Hostels. This campus is India's first 5-star GRIHA LD campus for minimizing the negative effect on the environment. IITGN has also been bestowed with FSSAI's 'Eat Right Campus' with a 5-star rating and is the first (and only) academic campus to be declared so.

Admission Procedure

IIT Gandhinagar offers UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels in the following streams of Engineering and Science courses. Admission to the UG, PG, and Ph.D. courses are based on exams like JEE MAIN, JEE ADVANCE, JAM, GATE, and written tests followed by a personal interview. JEE Advanced registrations can be done online on the JEE official website. JEE Main 2023 session 2 will be conducted between April 6 and April 12, 2023, except April 7 & 9, 2023. JEE Advanced 2023 is scheduled to be conducted on June 4, 2023, in CBT mode only. JEE advanced registrations will start from April 30, 2023. The last date to apply for JEE Advanced is May 4, 2023. PhD admission (Special Drive) 2023-24 is open. The M.Sc admission process will be held between April 11 to 25, 2023.

PG Admission Eligibility Criteria

IIT Gandhinagar eligibility criteria for the admission of the candidates to the PG course are as follows

• M.Tech Candidates must complete their bachelor's degree from a recognized university with at least 55% marks/5.5 out of 10 on a point scale in BE/BTech/MSc ( 50% marks for SC/ST candidates).
• M.Tech Candidates who have a valid GATE score (at the time of interview/written test) are eligible to apply for M.Tech.
• GATE is not required for application to M.Tech on a part-time basis or for the PGDIIT program.
• Admission to the MA program is offered based on entrance tests and interviews.
• The Institute will invite a limited number of candidates for a written test and interview based on their academics and aptitude for graduate study in the humanities and social sciences.
• Test and interview will be held at IIT Gandhinagar. 
• However, if there is any change in the venue, the shortlisted candidate will be intimated.
• M.Sc Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree with 55 aggregate or 5.5 CGPA in relevant stream.
• M.Sc Candidates then must register and attend CCMN counseling.
• Final choices are done through a CCMN message, supporting the rank in the JAM examination.
• Admission to the Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics disciplines is conducted through the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc, while admission to the Cognitive Science program is conducted through the Institute's own written test and interview process.

Research Admission Eligibility Criteria
