The Hospital – Pakaswasa Samanvaya Rugnalaya, Nagpur – The Hospital was the inspiration of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, Established by the then Governor of C.P. & Berar, Shri Mangaldasji Pakwasa on 13th Feb 1949. The auspicious occasion of inauguration was on 1st January 1950 at the hands of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in presence of the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad as Guest of Honors at Raja Bakhta Buland Shah Palace, provided with 2 acres of land for Herbal garden. Various Departments as Kayachikitsa, Shalaytantra, Shalakyatantra, Strirog, Balrog, Prasutitantra etc were well equipped through the generous donation by the dignitaries present at the time of inauguration. Pharmacy and Herbal Garden also developed later. Patients from different state were being relieved of their sufferings, especially as vatrog along with treatment of piles and fistula by Chikitsa, Ksharkarma, Jalaukakarma, Agnikarma. Vd. V.P.Sharma established Kerlian treatment and teaching, even some foreign students learned the same here.
The College – Shri Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur – Bharatiya Samavaya Samitee's dream came true in 1953 with the establishment of the college, which was recognized in 1956 by Vidarbha Ayurved Board for running a 4 years BAMS course after matriculation. With Pt. Shivkaran Sharma Chhangani as principal many renowned doctors provided their free services.

Vidarbha merged in Maharashtra in 1960 and with the formation of Maharashtra Ayurvedic Board and faculty, MFAM Course replaced previous BAMS Course. The executive body with Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj as President, Pt. Shivkaran Sharma as Secretary started efforts for government grant for this unaided institute. Government took over the college in 1965 on some technical ground. But the hospital kept on working under the supervision of the then principal Pt.Gulraj Sharma Mishra and Pt.Shivkaran Sharma Chhangani.

The effort of Pt. Shiv Sharma (M.P., Rajyasabha), Pt.Shivkaran Sharma Chhangani, and Shri Anant Sharma Tripathi etc are resulted in the constitution of CCIM in 1970 with the running of uniform Ayurvedic Course "BAMS" all over the country. The college got affiliated to Nagpur University in 1972 with 90% grant in aid from the government of Maharashtra. The collective approach of the executive body, the staff and the students and the aid from the central & Maharashtra government, Ministry Health and family Welfare developed the institute continuously as per CCIM norms along with popularisation.

The college started conducting P.G.Course in 1985. In 1998 Maharashtra University of Health Sciences started operating with the affiliation of BAMS Course but the P.G.Courses was under Rastrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur till 2006 and there after it was affiliated to MUHS. During 2017-18 the admission capacity for BAMS was increased to 100 from the previous capacity of 70 students with P.G. in 13 subjects.

It is well known institute of Ayurved in central India for patients as well as for students. Health Camps are arranged by NSS and a village "Yerla" has been adopted for its health care. Similarly the institution played a vital role during Bhopal gas tragedy. Pure Ayurvedic treatment and panchkarm are the strong backbone of the institute with X-Ray and Pathological investigations.

Bharatiya Vaidyak Samanvaya Samitee came forward with its collaborative hand for research in ayurved with the establishment of Smt. Laxmidevi Bajaj – OPD, inaugurated on 24th January 1989, by the then governor of Maharashtra Dr.Shankar Dayal Sharma. The programme was chaired by Dr.Shrikant Jichkar, Minister of State for Information and public relation. The programme was graced by the advisor to government of India, political leaders, renowned doctors and social workers.

This research centre is working for the treatment of the patient at nominal fee, it also conducts conferences, seminar, diagnostic camp etc. The Research Centre was later extended with the inauguration Shri Gangabisanji Vyas – IPD on 3rd May 1998 at the hands of Shri Shivkumarji Mishra in the chairmanship of Dr.N.G.Bokare, Vice Chancellor, Nagpur University. The programme was witnessed by the Additional Director General of CCIM, Director, Shri Baidyanath Pratisthan, President and Executive Board of Bharatiya Vaidyak Samanvaya Samitee and other dignitaries.
Central Research Laboratory – Another feather to the cap of the institute was the approval and inclusion of the monographs in "The Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India", Dept of AYUSH, prepared by the Central Research lab. of this institute. The drugs prepared by M.D./M.S.(Ayu) students are studied here for their standards and composition. Sample from other ayurvedic institutes as well as from non-ayurvedic institute including private companies such as part & Devis, Warner – Lambert etc have been studied as per companies requirements. Apart from analysis, the main approach of the Central Research lab. is the "On table demonstration" of fundamentals and basics related to clinical, para clinical and non-clinical branches of Ayurved; series of such experiment have been designed and performed in this lab, such as experiments for the demonstration with scientific explanation and presentation of various Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana procedures along with experimental studies with respect to Tridosh, Saptadhatus, Sara, Gunas and pratical approach to Panchamahabhoot, effect of different mahabhoot pradhan Aahar, Aushadhi dravya, environment etc on body growth and physiological processes and facts. Studies related to Gada-Agada and various detoxifying processes and their scientific aspets with respech to their ayurvedic antidote are also studied here. Since, Gomutra is used in the preparation of majority of Ayurvedic medicines, it becomes essential to have standard for the same; a project for the standards of Gomutra under MGIRI, Wardha (IIT, New Delhi) has been worked out in this lab. The approach is to bring Samhitas from library to laboratory.
