History and Introduction

Bethesda School of Nursing was established in the year 1995 by Muolvaiphei Rural Health & Research Centre under the project run by the Independent Church of India for imparting a three and half year Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. It is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and is affiliated with Manipur Nursing Council.
The Hostel building capacity is for more than 150 students attached with a multi-purpose hall, dining hall, kitchen, storeroom, and sick room, etc. The school has a separate Administrative (office), Class Rooms, Laboratories, and Library hall and Staff quarters, etc.
Theory, Practical, Demonstration, and Clinical duty are conducted according to the requirements from the INC (Indian Nursing Council). The School (BSN) at present possessed all the required and necessary facilities and infrastructure. The student actively takes part in the activities like Games & Sports, Social works, etc.
Theory and Practical Demonstration are conducted at the School premises (MRH&RC) and obtained their practical experiences in different hospitals and PHCs.
So far, more than 550 students have successfully completed the course over the past 17 years from Bethesda School of Nursing. The students have primarily from the neighboring State of Manipur. They belonged to different Tribes & castes as well.
In all batches, students have completed projects and assignments for developing or enhancing patient care in their respective subjects. These projects have focused on various components of care including hospital-based care, counseling, infection control, self-education, and home-based care. By the end of the course, the students have developed the requisite knowledge and skills in the health care system at their own level and demonstrated their ability to carry on the nursing profession/services.

AIMS 

1. The primary aim of the institution is to educate and train the student as a health professional and provide instruction and supervision in nursing in the context of Christian service.
2. Prepare to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing comprehensive nursing services and conduct nursing research studies in the hospital as well as community settings. 
3. Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations and assume the role of teacher, supervisor, manager, and client advocate in clinical and public health settings.
4.  To train students to maintain the highest possible professional standards at all times.
5.  To train students to give comprehensive nursing care to the sick and needy without discrimination of caste, race, creed, colour, religion or social status.

OBJECTIVE

1. To enable the students to improve their knowledge and skills in Nursing care.
2. To enable the practical development of accessible and high-quality nursing services in the hospital as well as society.
3. The ultimate beneficiaries of the programme will be patients from the financially weaker section of the population, especially those from the rural areas.

Admission, Eligibility and Selection:-

ADMISSION

The number of seats available to the course of General Nursing and Midwives is as per INC norms. The seats are to be filled strictly on merit marks secured by the candidate at the time of entrance examination and personal interview conducted by the  School Board.  Students will be admitted only if she found medically fit.  The minimal amount of admission fees is as per the decision made by the Board from time to time.

ELIGIBILITY

 Eligibility for admission to the Course of  General Nursing and Midwives are as under:

1. Should have passed the 12th class or equivalent with a minimum of 45% as per INC rules. The candidate must also have passed English in qualifying examinations.
2. Candidates belonging to SC/ST will be allowed a 5% relaxation of marks in the minimum eligibility requirement.
3. The minimum age requirement is 17 years and should not be more than 25 years at the time of filling up the form.
4.  The applicant must be in good mental and physical health and should be free from any physical defect which is likely to interfere with her studies including active outdoor duties required.
5.  Only unmarried women candidates are eligible for the course.
6.  Working knowledge of English is necessary.

Note:

• The general standard of the Entrance Examination will be that of class 12th standard. No syllabus for the examination will be prescribed by the institution. The medium of examination will be in English.  The question paper will consist of  Basic Science,  General Knowledge, English Grammar, and Composition.

PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION:

 Entrance Examination & Interview:

• Candidates will be selected for admission in the General Nursing and  Midwives based on the marks secured in the entrance examination and personal interview conducted by the School Board.

Medical Examination:

• The selected candidate will have to undergo a Medical Examination conducted by  Medical Board set up by the MRH&RC. If the candidate is found medically unfit for admission by the School Medical Board, she will be rejected.

Waiting List:

• If a Selected candidate fails to get admitted before the expiry date of admission given by the  Selection  Board,  in such event the next candidate in order of merit will be given the offer of selection.

 Note:   

• No correspondence will be entertained concerning the rejection of any candidate.   Any attempt by the candidates or relatives to canvas for admission or bring influence to bear upon the Principal or other staff members may result in disqualification. The charges for Medical Examination will be Rs. 100 /- which is to be paid by the candidate at the time of Medical Examination.
