It runs under the supervision of Bhai Gurdas Educational Trust (Foundation) Regd. The institute was approved by Indian Nursing Council in Jan. 2003. And the suitability certificate was issued in Sept. 2003 by INC, New Delhi. It is affiliated with Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh. The society aims at promoting education among rural people by establishing professional institutes like Nursing and other para-medical in the near future. It gives us immense pleasure that the Trust has constructed its own new College Building on Patiala Sirhind Road, Near Faggan Majra Bus Stand in more than two acres of land (on the name of Bhai Gurdas Educational Trust).
Aim and Objects
The objects of the foundation is to pay homage and perpetuate the memory of the great Sikh scholar Bhai Gurdas Ji (1551-1637). It is hoped that this body will prove to be a symbol of people’s devotion and respect for the great poet and the writer of the first Bir of holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. The foundation is a duly registered body under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and is being run since July, 1991 with the active co-operation of some leading Sikh institutions of Punjab and other parts of the country.
The primary aim of the Society is that the students coming out of the College should serve the nation with their knowledge of the most modern and latest medical technology.
As we know nursing is one of the noblest professions. Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) was its founder. She began training in Nursing at the Institute of Saint Vincent De Paul in Alexandria (UAR). Under her supervision, nursing departments were also established at Uskudar and later at Balaklabva in Crimea.
Through her tireless efforts the mortality rate among the sick and the wounded was greatly reduced. She also founded a Nursing College and a Home for Nursing at Saint Thomas's Hospital in London.
The opening of this College marked the beginning of profesional education in Nursing. Florence Nightingale's contribution to the evolution of Nursing as a profession is invaluable. Before she undertook her reforms, nurses were largely untrained personnel who considered their job as a menial chore. Through her tireless efforts the stature of Nursing was raised to a medical profession-endowing nurses with high standards of education and ethical responsibilities towards humanity.
