INTRODUCTION
DMCH COLLEGE OF NURSING
DMCH College of Nursing is one of the most modern equipped nursing colleges of Punjab. It is widely recognized as centre of excellence in the field of nursing education with excellent job training facilities in North Zone. The college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, recognized by Indian Nursing College and is approved by Punjab Government.
College of Nursing occupies 5 acres of prime land with creamy white building on sweeping lawns on Dandi Swami Road, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. Large playgrounds for Badminton with green surroundings are part of the College campus.
The school of Nursing was started in 1954 with an idea to train ANMs. The school was upgraded to 3 years GNM program in 1969. In October 2002, College of Nursing came in existence with intake of 50 students in B.Sc. (N) program and which was then increased to 100 seats in 2007. In 2006 Post Basic B.Sc. (N) came in existence in CON with 30 seats. After this, M.Sc. (N) program was started in 2010 with 25 seats. However, GNM was phased out in 2009 and Post Basic B.Sc. (N) in 2013.

The institute has highly qualified and experienced faculty, many of whom have received national and international recognition for their research and publications. There are frequent visits of guest lecturers from national and international universities, which bring their research and development into classrooms.
There is well-equipped separate library for nursing students with all the modern facilities. The library has 4500 nursing books and 200 nursing journals. In addition, there is main Library in the hospital, which is equipped with a large number of professional books and journals.
The college has well ventilated classrooms with modern facilities. To enhance the presentation of academic exercises like lectures, seminars etc., the institute has a good audio-visual set up with T.V., DVD player, Overhead projectors with white screens, Slide projectors, sound system, models and charts for faculty and students.
The College of Nursing has well equipped laboratories of Fundamental of Nursing, Nutrition, Community Health Nursing, Maternal & Child Health, Computer lab with latest equipment’s. Laboratories of Anatomy, Physiology & Microbiology departments of medical college are also used for nursing students.
The college possesses good and comfortable accommodation for girls with all the facilities including 24-hour security, entertainment, boarding and mess. Hostel rooms have attached bathrooms and geysers. Safe drinking water is available for students.

Course offered:-
1).B.SC. NURSING COURSE
Bachelor of Science in Nursing Course shall be of four academic years, including compulsory rotatory intern-ship. This is subject to the rules of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. This course will start in July /August every year. Each year 100 students are admitted to the college.
DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS – Total 100 seats
a) The distribution of seats would be:
- Government quota seats 50%
- Management quota seats 50% (including Foreign Indian Student (N.R.I) and out of state quota)
b) The government quota seats would be filled up by the admissions committee appointed by the Government on the basis of merit in PPMET and onwards, only except, if provided otherwise.
c) The management quota seats would be filled up by a Central Admission Committee strictly on the basis of merit in the PPMET and onwards except, if provided otherwise. The candidate for the admission on management quota shall apply to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot also. The Management Quota seats shall be filled up on the basis of PPMETby the centralized admission committee constituted for this purpose. Government quota seats remaining vacant will be transferred to management quota and vice-versa.
PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION:- Procedure for selection for government and Management quota (including NRI seats) will be as per PPMET prospectus. No admission shall be made after 31st October of each year including left over seats.
2).M.Sc. NURSING COURSE
DURATION
The duration of the course for the degree of Master of Sciences in Nursing shall be of two Academic years and the examination shall be divided into two years. The examination for first year and second year ordinarily will be held in May/June and as per dates fixed by the University.
COURSES OFFERED
The courses for degree of Master of Science in Nursing shall have five clinical specialties and a candidate shall opt for one of these:
- Psychiatric Nursing - 5
- Paediatric Nursing - 2
- Community Health Nursing - 6
- Obstetrical Nursing - 6
- Medical Surgical Nursing - 6
Medical Surgical Nursing will have five specialty areas that is (Critical Care Nursing, Cardio Vascular & Thoracic, Neuro Sciences and Oncology Nursing)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA/ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
- The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
- The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of
- B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks. 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.
- The candidate should have undergone in B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Hons.Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
- Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
- Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
- Candidate shall be medically fit.
