Diploma in nursing (GNM)

Duration: 3 years
Eligibility Criteria of Admission
The candidate seeking admission must:

• Have passed Pre-university examination (PUC of 2 years) or equivalent as recognized by Karnataka state diploma nursing education board with science/ commerce/ arts & other subjects.
• Have obtained at least fifty percent (40%) of the total marks in case of General Category and 35% in case of SC/ST.
• Have completed 17 years on or before 31st of October of the year of admission.
• Be medically fit (should produce a medical fitness certificate from a recognized and licensed Physician).

Academics

Counselling and Guidance

Personal problems of students are looked into and necessary counselling and guidance are provided by the college faculty.

Seminar Hall

The Seminar Hall is furnished with modern seating arrangements, platform and other necessary facilities. We have specialized faculty to launch and arrange various seminars related to the branches of nursing curriculum.

Sports and Culture

GCN is committed to motivate students to participate in various extracurricular activities by ensuring consistent encouragement. The necessary facilities are provided and adequate funds are allotted. The sports and cultural committees supervise the extra-curricular activities.

Transportation

The College provides fleet of self-owned, Hi-Tech, C.C camera installed and GPRS connected buses with experienced drivers which carries students to various clinical areas, field works and other academic units.

Library Facilities

Global College of Nursing has a state-of-the-art library, which includes a digital section and photocopying facilities. It has an extensive collection of more than 3000 books and 7 journals (Indian –05 nos. & international – 02 nos.), magazines, research documents and a large number of CDs, Audio and Video Cassettes. It also has the subscription to 5 general magazines

Teaching Staff

• The college has well-qualified & experienced teaching faculty, who strive hard to impart quality nursing education and give personal attention to each student.
• The college has well equipped and spacious classrooms and laboratories viz. Fundamental Nursing Lab, Community Health Nursing Lab, Obstetrics and Child Health Nursing Lab, Audio-Visual Lab, Nutrition Lab and Computer Lab.

Hostel Accommodation

• College owns a excellent hostel with all the amenities which is located at a walkable distance from the college in which provide good quality food, 24X7 security, C.C T.V surveillance, wardens and recreation facilities.
• A written permission from the Principal is required for staying out of the hostel after the regular permitted hours and while leaving the station (Bangalore).
• Those students who do not follow the rules & regulations of the hostel will be liable for dismissal from the hostel.
• No valuables (jewellery) are permitted in the rooms. The management does not own responsibility in case of loss.
• Students will not be permitted to go home during the academic session, other than the vacation period. This rule has to be strictly adhered to by the parents and students.

Laboratory

Fundamental and Foundation Lab

This Department functions in training nursing students on basic nursing procedures that will help them to render basic care to clients in the hospital. The basic skill of the students is developed in the labs by using mannequins, dummies in simulated situation before they are posted to real hospital situations. The students are exposed to practicing the nursing procedure so that they can develop with reasonable skill and perform procedures efficient is in the actual scenario.

Community Health Nursing Lab

In this department, students are provided with nursing practice scenario that blends primary health care & principles of public health nursing practice. Home visits, survey of the field’s door to door delivery of health care etc. are intended to develop community health nursing skills to serve the people of both urban and rural areas.

Child Health Nursing Lab

The department provides training to nursing students in paediatric nursing specialty students to cater to the needs of children of all age groups, from birth to adolescence. Good teaching- learning experiences to the students are provided by means of expert teachers and good clinical practice. The department aims to enable student to function as educators, managers and researchers in the field of child health nursing.

Medical Surgical Nursing Lab

The department aims to prepare the students to develop excellent competence in providing comprehensive care to patients and their families and enable the students to play the role of care planning care provider, educator, researcher and counsellor.

Obstetrical and Gynaecological Nursing Lab

The Department of Obstetrical and Gynaecological nursing teaches the subject with theoretical and practical elements. Our graduates and postgraduates are trained by expert teaching faculty, so that they are competent and efficient in rendering the best possible MCH care to the community at large. We ensure effective and efficient services to our student community in all areas and enable them to function as educators, managers and researchers in the field of Obstetrical and Gynaecological nursing.
