Welcome to Gursewa Society
TAKING Cognizance of persistent demand of the people of the rural area of Hoshiarpur and neighboring Districts of Punjab to start institutions of higher education to provide job oriented courses to the youth of the area in general and young girls in particular, who could not get to such education at far away places from their homes. The Gursewa Society For Education, Health and Welfare Activities was established in the year of 2000 under the able guidance and Presidentship of Dr. Jang Bhadur Singh Rai of Rai Hospital Garhshankar, a doctor by profession, a social worker by deeds and seasoned political elite by nature. the society is duly registered with the registrar of societies, of Punjab.
Right from the beginning the Gursewa Society charted out its plan and established Gursewa institute of Science and Technology at Garhshankar which is affiliated with Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar and running Diploma and Degree courses in Medical Lab Technology (MLT) and Fashion Technology.
Over the years the students have shown remarkable success at the examinations conducted by Punjab Technical University. They captured top positions in these examinations year after year. The Society also runs MPHW (Male) Course, recognized by the Directorate of Health Services and Family Welfare, Punjab encouraged at the success of the lnstitute of Science and Technology, Gursewa Society for Health and Education Welfare Activities bowed before the demand of the well wishers and elite of NRI’s to start another venture, the Gursewa School of Nursing for GNM Course at Garhshankar in 2006, Punjab Govt. and Punjab. Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and the lndian Nursing Council, New Delhi have granted affiliation to the new school in2007, The Gursewa School of Nursing has since been raised to the status of College and has been renamed as Gursewa College of Nursing w.e.f. 1st Sep 2008 and is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Science, Faridkot. The Hostel accommodation is provided in the Gursewa Hostel built at new campus. Gursewa College of Nursing is housed in a magnificent and ultra modern building of its own at Panam Campus on Garhshankar-Chandigarh Road, barely 3 K.M. from the town.

The Gursewa students, over the years, kept the flag flying in examinations and in extra curricular activities. All those who passed over in the previous years got good placements in leading Hospitals in the country and some of them are well settled in the profession in the foreign countries, like USA, UK,Canada, Australia and New-Zealand, We wish to achieve new heights in the coming years.

Course Offered:-

Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM)

ANM or simply Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery in Nursing is a two-year undergraduate certificate-level course in Medical Nursing.
Nursing is the medical specialty of caring for the sick, and maternity care is a profession that focusses on providing help to the mother during work and pregnancy. Nursing is an important part of the healthcare sector. Nurses have the responsibility to ensure the smooth functioning of health organizations such as Hospitals, Dispensaries, NGOs, etc. Subjects covered within this course’s curriculum include Anatomy & Physiology, Biological Science, Microbiology, Behavioral Science, Sociology, Psychology, Fundamentals of Nursing, and First Aid.
The program aims to produce skilled general nurses, with qualities such as:

• Flexibility, adaptability, empathy, organizational skills, and time management.
• Leadership skills, determination, tenacity, and ability to conduct research.
• Good communication and observation skills which are crucial to good nursing.
• Constant alertness to changes in patients’ conditions and subsequent implications in terms of care.

General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)

Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a three-year programme aimed to prepare students to work effectively as members of the health team. This job-oriented programme comprises subjects like Nursing Fundamentals Anatomy & Physiology Psychology Biology Sociology and First Aid.
The programme trains students to closely assess the nursing need of the patients monitor the condition of patients provide effective nursing care and assist the doctors in surgical procedures. The students learn to set up medical equipment in operation theatres and adeptly handle patients during emergency situations.
The nurse on the completion of this course will be able to-

• Assess the nursing need of clients.
• Provide effective nursing care.
• Apply problem solving techniques in nursing practice.
• Assist in research activities.
• Communicate about the clients requirements.
• Monitor the condition of patients.
• Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and giving nursing care.

B.Sc. Nursing (Basic)

Graduation in Nursing or B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) in Nursing is a four-year professional course. To pursue B. Sc. nursing the candidates should have minimum eligibility criteria having completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects. Indian B.Sc. nursing degree is widely accepted throughout the globe since the course teaches nursing science along with the essence of humanities.
B.Sc. nursing is a graduate-level course in Nursing and covers all the important aspects of nursing. The course is aimed at imparting the thorough knowledge and know-how basics of the profession. As the profession directly involves in taking care of patients, thus the course has to be rigorous.
On completion of the Nursing program the graduate will be able to :

• Apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
• Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.
• Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
• Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
• Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.

B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic)

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing is a 2-year program pursued for candidates interested in the field of Nursing. Nurses are healthcare professionals who are trained in taking care of patients, treating them, and assisting doctors in treatment and surgery. A qualified RN (Registered Nurse) is capable of administering preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services to patients and communities at large.
Successful graduates of the course are hired in nursing educational institutions, fields of clinical nursing and public health nursing in community settings. Lessons in Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (P.B.B.Sc.) course are imparted through classroom and clinic-based teaching and educational visits.
The broad objectives of this program are to:

• provide an opportunity to aspiring nurses to upgrade knowledge and skills needed in responding to the changing health needs of the society.
