Guru Nanak Mission Institute of Nursing, Dhahan Kaleran was established in 1993 under Guru Nanak Mission Medical & Educational Trust, Dhahan Kaleran with an aim to provide Quality Nursing Education through General Nursing & Midwifery Diploma course and prepare nurses with highest level of knowledge and skills. The school of Nursing is affiliated to and recognized by Punjab Government, Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.
Guru Nanak Mission Institute of Nursing was further fortified when the College of Nursing came into existence in 1998 to offer 4 years B.Sc. Nursing Degree course. As the Trust believes in growth and progress, Later on Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Degree course was started in the year 2008. The college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences , Faridkot ad is recognized by Punjab Government, Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.
Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Dhahan Kaleran, A 250 bedded multispecialty hospital is our Parent Hospital. It is well equipped with all the facilities. Besides providing 24 hours Medical care, it also provides Outreach services to the nearby villages. We also have many Affiliated Hospitals in the nearby areas for providing added clinical experience to the students in order to expand their knowledge.
The college is always engaged in preparing well-qualified & registered Nurses at various levels to contribute as members of health care team, aiming specially at upliftment of women folk of Rural Punjab. The college has not only gained academic excellence but is also proud of producing skilled, committed, conscientious, and confident nursing graduates. The students carry out various activities like health awareness camps for the social welfare of people living in rural areas and urban slums.

Guru Nanak College of Nursing, has 3 courses currently available for the students to enroll upon.
The details of the courses are given below;

General Nursing & Midwifery Programme

  • The course of the studies leading to the award of Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery shall last for a minimum period of 3years and is subject to rules and regulation of the Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. The syllabus is according to Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.

BSc Nursing

  • The course of the studies leading to the award of Degree in B. Sc. (N) shall last for a minimum period of 4 years and is subject to rules and regulation of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot,  Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. The syllabus is according to Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.

Post Basic BSc Nursing

  • The course of the studies leading to the award of Degree in Post Basic B. Sc. (N) shall last for a minimum period of 2 years and is subject to rules and regulation of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot,  Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. The syllabus is according to Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.

NUMBER OF SEATS AVAILABLE: The Institute has currently the following number of seats in each course:

Admission:-

ADMISSION IN GENERAL NURSING & MIDWIFERY COURSE IN GURU NANAK MISION INSTITUTE OF NURSING

The Admission in the Guru Nanak Mission Institute of Nursing requires students to undergo certain procedures laid out by the Government before enrolling in for the available academic courses.

Eligibility for admission depends on following:

               i.      Age: The candidate shall be 17 years or more and 35 years or less.

             ii.      Minimum Qualification: Minimum qualification shall be 12 years of schooling (10+2) or its equivalent with minimum 40% marks.

           iii.      Preference: Preference shall be given to those who have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with science i.e. Physics, Chemistry & Biology.

           iv.      Residence Status: Preference will be given to the candidates who are residents of Punjab as per Department of Personnel leters no: 1/3/95-3PPI/9619, dated 6 June 1996 and no 1/2/95-3PPI/81 dated 1 January 1999.

             v.      Medical: The candidate should be medically fit.

           vi.      Gender: Only unmarried females can apply.

For admission procedure, the application must be accompanied by the following documents attested by a gazetted officer:

               i.      A copy of certificate of having passed 10+2 examination.

             ii.      3 recent passport sized photographs & Adhar Card.

           iii.      A certificate of having passed the matriculation examination (showing date of birth).

           iv.      A certificate of good character from the Headmaster/Principal of the educational institute last attended.

             v.      Authority form and photos of relative must be signed/attested by parents.

           vi.      The application should either be delivered personally at the counter in the office of the college of Nursing or sent by the Registered Post.

The following conditions would apply to admission in G.N.M course:

a.The admission will be purely on the merit of 10+2 marks.

b.      Preference shall be given to those who have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry & Biology.

c.If at any stage, it is found that the candidate has supplied any false information in the admission form, then her candidature for the course shall be cancelled.

d.      The selection list as well as waiting list will be placed on the notice board at Guru Nanak College of Nursing, Dhahan Kaleran, DisttNawanshahr, next day of the Interview.

e.The seat(s) of the candidate(s) who fail to deposit the dues in the specified time will be allotted to the next eligible candidate(s) in the waiting list.

Medical examination
The selected candidates shall be examined by a medical board of the hospital. Medically unfit candidates will not be allowed to join the course. Selected candidates must get themselves vaccinated against Hepatitis -B before joining the course at their own cost. 

 

Preliminary training period

a.On admission to the course, each candidate has to undergo preliminary Nursing Training for the first three months. Weekly and monthly tests are given and their progress records are maintained. After three months training, candidates have to appear in P.T.S. examination in which each candidate must secure at least 50% marks to pass the examination. Training of candidates failing to pass this examination will be terminated.

b.      On completion of GNM course, the student must apply for life membership of Trained Nurse Association of India.

Examination eligibility

              I.      Student has to complete not less than 11 months of the course.

           II.      She / He has to attend 80% of formal instructions given on each subject and 80% of the field clinical experience in each area/subject separately during academic year. However, the total clinical/field experience prescribed must be completed before the final council examination and before the issue of Diploma and Registration certificates.

        III.      The overall performance of the student and her conduct during entire academic year should be satisfactory.

        IV.      The student should have passed internal assessment examination in each subject i.e. both in theory and practical by securing 50% marks separately in each paper.

           V.      If a student fails in one theory paper/practical, she/he shall be promoted to the next year of the study. She would sit for supplementary examination in the failed subject/practical. If she fails to clear supplementary examination, she shall be allowed to sit again along with her next year annual examinations. She shall not be promoted to the third year of study unless she has cleared all the papers of first year of study.

        VI.      If a student fails in two or more papers or practical, she shall not be promoted to the next year. She shall sit for supplementary examination in the failed subjects/practical only. If she does not clear the supplementary she can appear in the next main examination. She shall be promoted to the next year study only after clearing the papers either in supplementary or in the main examination. She shall be eligible for the examination of the next year of study after one academic year from the passing the last examination (main/supplementary).

     VII.      If a student fails in one theory paper/practical examination of third year, she will be allowed to sit for supplementary examination held subsequently in the failed subject/practical.

Rules & Regulation:-

 RELATED TO HOSTEL

  • .  Corridors & bathrooms are to be kept clean.
  • . Rooms are to be cleaned properly.
  • . No lights to be switched on in the daylight.
  • . No pasting of posters on the walls.
  • . Study timings are from 8:30pm to11:00 pm.
  • . Watching T V allowed between 7:00pm to8:00pm  
  • . No use of electrical equipment in college /hostel including walkman.
  • . No noise during college timings or during study period.
  • . Visit to Gurudwara sahib from 6:00pm to 7:00 pm.
  • . Visit to canteen between 4:30pm to5:30 pm (Monday to Saturday) and 9:00 am to  6:00 pm on Sunday.
  • . Students are not allowed to sit in canteen and no order should be placed/received after 06.00 P.m.
  • . Sports and extra-curricular activities are allowed every evening between 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
  • . Anyone found tampering with college and hostel property will be fined.
  • . Everyone should get the attendance marked to the warden before dinner.
  • . No one is allowed to go outside gate without written permission.
  • . Use of mobile phone in the hostel/hospital is not permitted, if anybody found will be fined Rs. 5000/-.
  • . No one is allowed to go to staff hostel and make phone calls to teachers personal numbers.
  • . Students have to come to hostel on Sunday evening from their routine night stay.
  • . Students have to fill movement register before leaving the  hostel ( for hospital, canteen, tuckshop etc.)

RELATED TO COLLEGE

  • .No body will roam unnecessarily on ground floor, especially around Principal’s Office, Staff Rooms and Labs
  • . Classrooms are to be arranged properly and are to be kept clean.
  • . Students will not come to college in night suits and slippers
  • . All lights and fans are to be switched off before leaving the class.
  • . No student will use the teacher’s  office for any activity before and after college hours.
  • . No student will enter the Principal’s office without informing the class teacher.
  • . Don’t write or past anything to wall &boards.
  • . Don’t enter teacher’s office without permission.
  • . Don’t watch T.V during college hours.
  • . No student is allowed to enter LAB without permission.
  • . No student can sit in the hostel room during class hours.
  • . Student found absent from class have to do one makeup.

RELATED TO HOSPITAL

  • . During off-hours, no one should go to the hospital without wardens’ permission.
  • . Students going for morning, evening and night duty should enter their names & time  in the register kept in Warden’s Office.
  • . Students should be in neat and clean uniform.
  • . All pocket articles should be complete.
  • . Punctuality is to be strictly maintained and the students have to make entry of arriving and leaving the clinical area.
  • . Don’t visit relatives on duty.
  • . Wear uniform for going  to hospital for any work.
  • . Once duty roster has been made; no further changes will be entertained
  • . Don’t wear ornaments and makeup during clinical area.
  • . No one is allowed to leave their clinical area without informing ward Incharge and senior staff of that area.
  • . No one is allowed to come back to hostel during duty hours and if any body found doing so will be punished.
  • .  If students are absent from clinical area without information they will be marked absent and have to do double duty for that.

RELATED TO NIGHTPASS & LEAVES

  • . Two night pass are allowed once in a month for B.Sc.(N) I,II,III year, interns and G.N.M.     I, II, 1II year student..
  • Students can avail only one emergency leave, and they are not entitled to have any marriage leave or Akhandpath leave. And leave should be approved from parents only.
  • . Not more than three days will be granted  for self marriage of the student.
  • . If student is absent from institute for one week, she will not be allowed to sit in the exam.
  • - If student is absent more than one week, her course duration will be extended for six months.  
  • . No outing is allowed for the students.
  • . No leave during weekend.
  • . If student is coming on Monday morning –one night pass will be deducted.
  • . If student is absent for one day, she has to pay Rs 100/- as fine, two make ups and one night pass will be deducted.
  • . No advance night pass will be given.

RELATED TO PHONE CALLS & MEETING PARENTS

  • . No parent is allowed to meet their child on any other day except on Saturday and Sunday.
  • . No student is allowed to make phone call beyond 180 seconds of duration.
  • . Phone call beyond stipulated time will not be allowed.
  • . No student will be allowed at any cost to make or receive any phone call during college hours and after 08.00 pm.
  • . Phone calls should be made only on the numbers mentioned in the files of the students & no one is allowed to go to STD without written permission of class Incharge.
  • . Any one violating the rules will be fined.

RELATED TO MESS

  • . No students are allowed to take food to their room.
  • . For sick, food can be taken to room with permission of warden.
  • . No student is allowed take utensils from the mess. If any utensils will be found in room, Rs 100/- will be  charged per utensil.
  •  . There should not be wastage of food.
  • . Maintain queue while taking food.
  • . Food will be served turn wise not seniority wise.
  • . Follow timing of mess.
  • .Inform in advance to warden for sick student diet
  • . In case of any leave or fast, inform to warden,
  • . Each student will wear proper dress with  dupatta.
  • . Any student found while taking food to room will be charged 100 Rs.
  • . In case of any problem contact the mess committee members.

CRITERIA FOR FINE AND MAKE-UPS

  •  * Students will do double make-ups for absence from duty.
  • * Fine will be charged from the student if she violates any of the above mentioned   rules.
  • *  Students will pay Rs. 100/- for not being abide by any above mentioned rule ,and successively, the rate of fine will be increased by Rs.25/- if student violates the rule .
