About Us
Introduction
Guru Nanak College of Nursing, Gopalpur was established in September, 2008 by Guru Nanak Educational Charitable Society (Regd.),Gopalpur under the leadership of its honourable President, Dr. Balwinder Singh Walia with the aim to help the students the adjoining areas in their personal and professional development so that they are able to make maximum contribution to the society as useful and productive individuals, citizens as well as efficient nurses. The 1st Batch of B.Sc. Nursing Joined this college on Oct 2009
The College is recognized by Indian Nursing Council New Delhi and Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh, approved by the Punjab Govt and affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.
It is situated in a peaceful and pollution-free environment on Ludhiana- Malerkotla road at Gopalpur, near Dehlon, surrounded by many villages with 9 undergraduate Colleges & 38 schools. With greenery all around,this prestigious College of Nursing with its peaceful environment presents a healthy atmosphere for studies. The College equipped with all the basic requirements and infrastructure, including spacious and airy class-rooms, play grounds, lawns and other amenities.
Profile
Nursing is a science and art. It is in fact a vocation which harmoniously combines two aspects.
Today nursing has become a highly respected and skilled profession. The modern nurse is well informed about the sophisticated equipments used in diagnosis and treatment therapy, latest surgical procedure, intensive care of the severely ill besides haemodialysis, organ transplant and a host of other complicated and difficult tasks which she/he may be handling in her/his daily routine. Her/his role in community health, child welfare and family planning is assuming a great importance day by day.
The Professional Nursing services meet the physical, psychological, spiritual and social need of human begins.
Candidates desirous of joining this noble career, satisfying the basic requirements of respective degree / diploma courses undergo the training in recognized schools or colleges. After completion of the same, they get themselves registered with the state Nursing Council or the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi after which they can serve in Indian or abroad.

It aims at identifying health needs of the people, planning and providing quality care in collaboration with other health professional and community groups.
- Scope of nursing practice encompasses provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care to people across their life span in wide variety of health care setting. Practice of nursing is based upon application of basic concepts and principles derived from the physical and behavioral sciences, medicine and surgery.
- Nursing is based on values of caring and aims to help individuals to attain independence in self-care. It necessitates development of compassion and understanding of human behavior among its practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals & groups.
- Undergraduate nursing program is broad based education within an academic framework specifically directed to the development of critical thinking , skills, competencies & standard required for practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in National Health Policy 2002.
- The teacher have the responsibility to be role models and create a learning environment that enables student to acquire inquiry driven, self directed learning and foster an attitude of life long learning.
- Under graduate nursing education program prepares its graduates to become exemplary citizen by adhering to code of ethics and professional conduct at all times in fulfilling personal, social and professional obligations so as to respond to national aspirations.
AIM :
- The aim of the undergraduate nursing program is to:
- Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
- Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing service and conduct research studies in the area of nursing practice.They are also expected to assume the role of teacher,supervisor and manager in a clinical/public health settings
OBJECTIVES :
On completion of the four year B.Sc. Nursing program the graduate will be able to:
- Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
- Demonstrate and understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.
- Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and AIM: OBJECTIVES: groups.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
- Utilize the latest trends and technologies in providing health care.
- Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
- Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conducts and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
- Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
- Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/community health settings
- Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.
- Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical/community health settings.
- Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.

G.N. College of Nursing, Gopalpur offers Basic B.Sc (Nursing), Post basic B.Sc(Nursing) Degree Programs, Diploma in General Nsg Midwifery and various short term courses including Bridge Programme Certificate In Community Health(BPCCH). These courses are designed to help the students develop ability to meet the basic health needs of the patients with regard to Nursing care & develop skill in the competencies required for rendering effective patient care. Students will be able to gain knowledge & develop understanding of various medical surgical, pediatric, Psychiatric, Maternity nursing, Community health nursing & various disorders & diseases. They will be able to give comprehensive Nursing care to the patient regarding the diseases.
Duration of the course
- In basic B.Sc. Nursing Degree Programme the duration of training is four years.
- Diploma in general nursing and midwifery – the duration of training is three years. Objectives of the Courses

General Nursing & Midwifery:
- Along with having NOC from Punjab Government, our institution has the recognition of Indian Council, New Delhi. The course of G.N.M. follows the pattern of I.N.C and fulfills the requirements of P.N.R.C.
Duration:
- It is a three (3) years Diploma Course.
Exams:
- The exams are conducted by Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Mohali

Labs & Departments
- Along with clinical postings we have facility of various labs and departments that help students to learn various nursing procedures.
Fundamental Lab
- Fundamental Lab – There are 10 demonstration beds in an adequate proportion to the number of students. The Lab is fully equipped with 5 Dummies (One Multipurpose patient care simulator) almirahs, washbasins with running water supply, tables, chairs etc.
Community Lab
- This lab is equipped with community Nursing bag, cards & folders with under 5 cards, eligible couples Maternity card 1 cot, charkha, various national programme models, CHC Models and Village Helath Care worker Models for practicing nursing procedures in rural and urban area of community.
Nutrition Lab
- This lab is for imparting basic knowledge about balanced diet and therapeutic diet for specific disease conditions. This lab has 10 gas stoves with gas connections, washbasins running water supply. Juicers, Mixers, Electric toasters, almirrahs, refrigerators and container for food storage.
Computer Lab
- The computer lab is well furnished and well equipped with 15 computers with internet connection. The computers has MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other useable softwares etc.
Anatomy Lab
- It has required posters, specimens, charts and skeletal system etc. for teaching and demonstration to the students.
MCH Lab
- It has required posters, specimens, charts, equipment, and vaginal delivery simulator for demonstration/practical training of students.
Audio-Visual Aids Room
- This room has advanced training aids like LCD Projector Overhead projectors, Slide projectors, Television, V.C.R. and Tape recorders, Amplifiers with Speakers, models specimens and different types of boards.

Eligibility:
A) Minimum education eligibility criteria for admission to GNM:
- 10+2 with English and must have obtained a minimum of 40% at the qualifying examination and English individually from any recognized board. Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government. However Science is preferable.
- 10+2 with English having 40% of marks in vocational ANM course from the school recognized CBSE board/State/Center.
- Registered ANM with pass marks.
- Admission will be strictly based on merit/ test/ interview.

Duration: It is a two years course
Exams:
- The exams are conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.
Clinical and Practical Experience:
- Both the theoretical and practical trainings are given due importance which is organized and supervised by the teachers and the concerned authorities.
Co-Curricular Activities:
- For the development of overall personality of the students, the institute has very good arrangements to organize cultural and sports event.
Eligibility:
- The candidate should have passed G.N.M from an institution recognized by P.N.R.C & I.N.C.
- Candidate must have a Registered Nurse & Registered Mid-wife certificate with State Nursing Council.
- Candidate must have completed age of 17 years.

- The minimum age for admission should be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
- The minimum educational requirements should be the passing of:
Higher Secondary school certificate Examination (12 year course).OR
Senior School certificate Examination (10+2), pre-degree Examination (10+2).
An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized board or university with Science ( Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English with minimum of 50% aggregate marks (PCBE).

- The college has a well established library which caters to the need of the undergraduate and post graduate nursing students, research scholars and the faculty. The library remains open from morning till evening on all working days.
Collection
- The college library has a collection of about 3137 nursing books and 15 volumes of journals. Out of which 5 are international and 10 are national nursing journals. Library also caters different magazines and 3 different Newspapers.
- The College always strives to provide the latest and best collection of books, journals, online sources, dissertations etc. to the students for course work and research.
Admission:-
Our Courses Now-a-days, as the quality of education and its methods are growing very fast with latest computerized technologies and skills; the need to upgrade the College into collegiate level come to the mind of the management. The joint and untiring effort of management, all the directors, the principal and nursing staff made it possible to upgrade it with collegiate programme in the year 2015. We have now started the collegiate programme with Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing by an approval of 30 seats from Indian Nursing Council New Delhi, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot, Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Govt of Punjab.
At Present we are running General Nursing and Midwifery Course with 60 seats and Post Basic B.Sc. with 30 seats. General Nursing and Midwifery Course is a diploma course of 3 years and our outgoing students are in almost all the countries of the world.
Programmes Offered
- The College is offering General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Course approved by PNRC, Chandigarh and INC, New Delhi. This is a complete fulltime three & half years (3½) course, with English as the medium of instruction. The students are given (theoretical in the class room) and practical training in wards. In addition to this there shall be one year in community Nursing and Midwifery during this period.

Eligibility criteria for admission
- G.N.M Must pass 10+2 examination (in any stream- medical, non-medical, commerce, arts) with 40% marks.
- For S.C/S.T students 35% marks.

POST BASIC B.Sc –
- Must be a registered nurse from a recognized university.
- Other terms and conditions as per the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.
