GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE COLLEGE

  • Students have to be punctual for assembly.
  • Every student must have put in a minimum of 80% of attendance separately for theory and practicals to be eligible for University Examination.
  • Attendance shall be taken before each lecture, practical class or clinicals.
  • Student should not be absent from the class without leave unless such absence is satisfactorily explained or informed prior.
  • Mass walk outs or strikes are strictly prohibited
  • Ragging in any form is a criminal offence, and will be dealt with all seriousness. Any such activities will be reported to the police and the students indulging in ragging will be expelled from the college.
  • Students on the role of the college are forbidden to take any active part in political agitation against the authority of the management / government. Students of this college getting involved in activity that may interfere with the co-operative life and educational work of the college will be liable to be suspended or expelled from the college by the Principal.
  • Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the college campus and student found to have violated the rule will be suspended.
  • Students are forbidden to affix posters, display materials and other articles on the walls of the college buildings.

POST BASIC DIPLOMA IN CARDIO THORACIC NURSING

AIMS
Aim of the Post Basic Diploma In Cardio Thoracic Nursing is to prepare registered nurses ( GNM or B.Sc ) with specialized knowledge , skills and attitude in providing advance quality care to patients with cardiothoracic problems and their families.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course

  • Describe the concepts and principles of cardio-thoracic nursing
  • Perform advanced cardiac life support skills
  • Apply nursing process in caring of patients with cardio-thoracic diseases.
  • Communicate effectively with patient having cardio-thoracic problems and their family members

B.Sc NURSING

AIMS
The aims of the undergraduate nursing programme are to:

  • Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  • Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nurisng services, and conduct research studies in the area of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in a clinical / public health setting / school of nursing.

OBJECTIVES OF B.Sc. NURSING
On completion of the four year B.Sc Nursing program the graduate will be able to :

  • Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medical including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of the individuals and groups.
  • Providing nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with individuals and groups.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR BSc NURSING

  • The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission (As per University Norms)
  • The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of : Higher secondary School Certificate (12 years Course), or Senior School Certificate Examination (10 + 2), Pre-Degree Examination (10 + 2) or an equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized board or university with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English with minimum of 50% aggregate marks. (As per INC norms)

  • PSO16: Medical Surgical Nursing II: to enable the students to recognize the etiology, patho physiology, symptomatology, diagnostic measures and management of patients with complex medical and surgical conditions in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology, urology, oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery and emergencies and to provide comprehensive nursing care to such patients.
  • PSO17: Child Health Nursing: to identify the normal growth and development, needs/problems of children of various age groups and deviations from normal, recognize the basic concepts, principles and techniques of child care and the role of family in child rearing, develop beginning ability to plan and provide comprehensive nursing care to children suffering from diseases and disorders.
  • PSO18: Mental Health Nursing: To understand the modern approach to mental health, identification, prevention and nursing management of common mental health problems with special emphasis on therapeutic interventions for individuals, family and community.
  • PSO19: Research and Biostatistics: to enable students to develop an understanding of basic concepts of research, research process and statistics. It is further structured to conduct / participate in need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to provide quality nursing care. The hours for practical will be utilized for conducting individual / group research project
  • PSO20: Obstetric Nursing: to appreciate the concepts and principles of obstetric nursing and helps them to acquire knowledge and develop attitude and beginning skills in rendering nursing care to normal and high risk pregnant women during antenatal, natal and postnatal periods in hospital and community settings. It also helps to develop skills in managing normal and high risk neonate and participate in family welfare programmes
  • PSO21: Gynaecological Nursing: to help the students acquire knowledge, develop attitude and beginning skills in the management of women with gynaecological problems and render pre and post operation care to clients undergoing major and minor surgeries

AIMS
The aims of the postgraduate nursing programme are to: Aim of the postgraduate programme in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Educators, Researchers and Administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.

OBJECTIVES OF MSc. NURSING
On completion of the 2 year M.Sc Nursing programme, the graduates will be able to:-

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA/ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR MSc NURSING

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of regular degree course in Nursing – (B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. (Hons). Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing), with minimum of 55% aggregate marks, in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
