About us 

General Nursing and Midwifery it deals with the education of nurses in general health care, nursing, and midwifery. Nursing is a profession within the Health Care Sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain maintain or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurses care for individuals of all ages and all cultural backgrounds who are healthy and ill in a holistic manner based on the individuals physical, emotional, psychological, intellectual, social, and spiritual needs. The profession combines physical sciences, social science, and technology in caring forthose individuals.

Indian Nursing Council believes in concept of Health laid down by World Health Organisation (WHO) “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

 

To provide qualitative Nursing Care there is a need to train nurses effectively to work as a team member of health care delivery system. It is therefore their training should involve positive attitudes, knowledge, skills, professional expertise, latest trends in health care and health care needs of the community and the country.

 

The Council believes that it has a responsibility in helping the students to develop pride in their profession besides keeping them abreast with current knowledge and professional trends for a successful career ahead.

After the successfully completion of the GNM course, there are a various higher study options like, Pc. B. Sc Nursing, M. Sc Nursing & Ph. D Nursing eventually.

Nursing Career has unlimited Job opportunities. Nurses can get jobs easily in both government and private sectors. Mostly they work in areas like government and private hospitals, nursing homes, old age homes, orphanages, various industries, sanatoriums, armed forces, ICU nurse & Infection control nurse.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Minimum Education Eligibility Criteria For Admission To GNM:

  •  

    10+2 with English and must have obtained a minimum of 40% at the qualifying examination and English individually from any recognized board. Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government. However, Science is preferable.

  •  

    10+2 with English having 40% of marks in vocational ANM course from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council.

  •  

    10+2 with English having 40% of marks in Vocational Stream-Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre.

  •  

    Registered ANM with pass mark.

  •  

    Admission of students shall be once in a year.

  •  

    Students shall be medically fit.

  •  

    Minimum age for admission will be 17 years. (as on 31st December of that year) The upper age limit is 35 yrs. For ANM/ for LHV, there is no age bar.

Foreign nationals: (including Nepali, Bangladeshi, Bhutani, and Tibetan refugee) seeking admission to Post Basic B. Sc Nursing in Bangalore program must have valid certificate of registered nurse by their own country.

ATTENDANCE:

A Candidate Shall Be Eligible For The Admission To The State Council / Board Examination If The Principal Of The School Certificate That:

  •  

    She / he has completed not less than eleven months of the course.

  •  

    A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence) in theory and practical in each subject for appearing for examination. The diploma shall not be awarded to the student till she / he has completed the clinical / field requirements.

  •  

    A Candidate must secure 50% marks in internal assessment separately in each theory and practical.

  •  

    The record of practical experience is complete. (The Principal shall send to the Council / board the internal assessment for each subject, i.e. both theory and practical (S) before the start of the examination along with the examination form).
