INTRODUCTION

Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing was established in the year 1997 under the Laxmi Memorial EducationTrust with an aim to provide quality nursing education and prepare nurses with high level of professional competence. It is one of the beginning educational endeavours of L.M.E.T which is promoted by Shri. A.J. Shetty. The College is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and is permanently recognised by the Indian Nursing Council [INC] New Delhi and Karnataka State Nursing Council Bangalore.

I take immense pleasure in welcoming you to the website of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust®. I value the bondage that we have built up with the corporate world through academic and placement associations, which are focused towards the synergy between Industry and Academy. The world is more dynamic than ever before. There is a sudden opening of the world economy to markets in both developed and developing countries and availability of technologies. As a result, current consumer preferences, product life cycles, employment concepts have undergone tremendous changes, because of which the challenges that the corporate world faces today are multi-dimensional.

While on the one hand there is a need to augment resources – both technological and human, to face the competition all over the world, on the other there is also a need to reduce increasing costs. ‘The best quality at the least cost’ seems to be the motto of the present day economic development. From the human resources stand point, this necessitates the emergence of young and effective managerial talent with an exposure to strategic specialization. Our efforts in training the students match the current demands of the corporate sector. The admission procedures in our institutions are stringent. General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) - Diploma in Nursing

Aim

• To prepare nurses with a sound educational programme in nursing to enable them to function as efficient members of the health team, beginning with the competencies for the first level positions in all kinds of health care settings.
• To help nurses develop an ability to co-operate and co-ordinate with members of the health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of health and rehabilitation of the sick.
• To help nurses in their personal and professional development, so that they are able to make maximum contribution to the society as useful and productive individuals, citizens as well as efficient nurses.
• To serve as a base for further professional education and specialization in nursing.
• To prepare nurses to keep pace with latest professional and technological developments and use these for providing nursing care service.

Eligibility

• Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years respectively
• Have passed 10+2 Class preferably science (PCB) & aggregate of 40% marks.
• 10+2 in Arts ( Mathematics, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography,BusinessStudies,Accountancy,HomeScience,Sociology,Psychology,Philosophy and core/English Elective or Health care science-vocational stream only.
• Passing out from recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent board with 40% marks.
• Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government.
• Registered ANM with State Nursing Registration Council
• 10+2 vocational ANM course from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council
• 10+2 Health care Science – Vocational stream from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre
• For Foreign Nationals: The entry qualification equivalency i.e., 12th standard will be obtained by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Institution, State Nursing Council will be responsible to ensure that the qualification and eligibility will be equivalent to what has been prescribed as above
• For Disabled Candidates: 3% Disability reservation to be considered with disability of locomotor to the tune of 40% to 50% of the lower extremity and other eligibility criteria with regard to age and qualification will be same as prescribed for each nursing programme.of 40% to 50%.
• 5% is relaxed for SC/ST candidates
• Any other quotas as per the State Govt. under the reservation policy
• Be medically fit

Note: Quotas shall be applicable within the sanctioned number of the seats sanctioned and not above it.

Duration

The course of the study shall be for 3 complete academic years including internship

A.J. Hospital & Research Centre a state-of –art tertiary care hospital with 730 bedded hospital with 22 specialty departments offering expert cares to the people in and around coastal area is our parent teaching hospital. It embraces the new technologies and skills to offer a high level of health care that matches the best in the country. Located amidst sylvan surroundings. It caters to the needs of wide verity of patients populations. This gives an immense learning opportunity to the nursing students. They are also exposed to challenging, many critical & general conditions that will test their competencies and enhance clinical skills.

Hostel

There are 3 hostels to cater to the comfortable stay of the nursing students during their course of study. I year students are accommodated in separate hostel. Students are given rooms for stay and the hostel has visitor’s lounge recreation hall with television facilities for indoor & outdoor games and spacious kitchen and dining hall. Vegetarian/Non-vegetarian meals are prepared hygienically and served esthetically in the dining hall.

Sports & Recreation

Sports & recreation facilities or the students are provided through the department of physical education. There are various facilities for indoor & outdoor games like Volley Ball, Basket Ball, shuttle, ball badminton, Cricket and indoor games like table tennis & carom. There is also a well equipped Gym which has all modern amenities for the workout of the students. The large play ground is utilized for athletic & field event like running, Shot-put, Javelin, Long jump, High Jump & Discuss Throw.

Physical Director is taken keen interest to provide coaching & training for the students within the campus and at special coaching centers.
