History, Location
Maharani Prem Kumari Nursing Institution was started during the academic year 2007-08 as     “MPK Nursing Training School” with Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives (ANM) course under the Mayurbhanj Vocational Training Centre (Society), Baripada. After completing 10 years of successful running, it was in the academic session 2018-19 MPK College of Nursing was setup in the district headquarter of Mayurbhanj, Odisha at Baripada duly permitted by Government of Odisha, Health and Family Welfare Department  to impart quality Health Education with a vision to produce skilled graduate nurses with academic excellence as the prime motto. The college is recognized by Odisha Nurses and Midwives Council, Bhubaneswar, approved by Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi & also affiliated to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjdeo University, Takhatpur, Baripada.
The college campus is located near the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital in the heart of the city of Baripada which is at a distance of approximately 265km from Bhubaneswar, the state capital of  Odisha and 250km from Kolkata. The city being situated in the lap of nature’s beauty-“Simlipal Biosphere Reserve” which is well conversant across the Globe and the existence of the institution in this town is well connected by road, NH-18 to the State Capital and SHs to various parts of Odisha. The Baripada Railway Station is just at One and Half KM distant from the institution which is also at a distance of 60KM from Balasore Railway Station, that is well-connected to many major cities of the Country.

Hiring the right people is the most important part of building a strong team, of course, and delegating to give people more autonomy is a powerful motivator. But managing a team is not that simple. Leaders have to play a far more hands-on role to make sure the group works well together and remains focused on the right priorities.

Being an entrepreneur in this sector, working since 2007 to run an ANM institution under the Mayurbhanj Vocational Training Center (Society), my hard labour, sincere effort towards my students boost me again in this Health sector to set up the MPK College of Nursing at Baripada, the district HQ of Mayurbhanj for the first time in 2018-2019 to produce graduate nurses & to enlist this place/district to compete with the key functionary places across the state and the country as health education is concerned. I have always tried to satisfy one’s effort in choosing this institution should be the best one. M.P.K College of Nursing provides a rich & diversified culture to nurture the young brains so as to get evolved in this changes with performance, competitiveness, ethics and other professional skills. This can only be achieved through co-operation & team-work among staffs, teachers, students and parents/guardians along with a positive and solid work ethics.
Our dedicated & skilled teachers, caring & supportive staffs, well-equipped laboratories, smart class-rooms, library, practical field exposure (rural & urban community), well-furnished class rooms and last but not the least the central location of the institution with good administration are our benchmarks and passion, for  which, a student after completing the course will definitely become a complete professional in all respect.

Nursing science in health education is not only a traditional process of encompassing knowledge for getting simply a job but also a life long process which inculcates a moral and ethical standard to lead one’s life in a right path. The old is in the process of giving way to a new institution; Prior to the setting up of Maharani Prem Kumari College of Nursing in the academic year of 2018-19, this institution has 10 years of expertise in providing ANM course to produce skilled Auxiliary Nurses & Midwives . I feel it privileged and honored to welcome you to the MPK College of Nursing as the first Principal.
The college is striving hard with best possible efforts to channelize strong values combining with academics among the students to prove themselves as an outstanding human being through their professional skill. We always try our best to boost the students to recognize within and set their goals for which we will be the best catalyst to achieve success in their life to be a skilled professional nurse, nursing teacher educator and a researcher. At MPK College of Nursing, our approach is always towards academic excellence through trained teachers, modified method of teaching and learning and practical demonstration oriented study.

Course Offered:-

B.Sc. (Nursing)

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an academic degree in the science and principles of nursing. It’s a 4-year long undergraduate degree course for all students who have cleared class 12th from the stream of science, MPK College of Nursing offers this course, that’s recognized by the Indian Nursing Council. This course focuses on reinstating health and providing care to the sick. It is a great career option for those intending to go for higher studies better their prospects.

Eligibilty Criteria

• Candidate must be of minimum 17 years on 31st December of the year in which admission is sought for both Male & Female.
• Candidate should have passed in the subject of PCB and English and must have obtained a minimum of 45% marks taken together in PCB at the qualifying examination(10+2).Candidate also eligible from State Open School(NIOS) recognized by central Government having science subject and English only.
• Have passed odia up to ME standard. For Candidates to be admitted in (Govt. /85% Govt. quota seats in INC/ONMC recognized private) institutions.
• Candidate’s belongings to SC/ST the marks obtained in PCB taken together in qualifying examination be 40% instead of 45 % as stated above.
• English is a compulsory subject in 10+2 for being eligible for admission to B.sc Nursing.
• Be either domicile/ permanent resident /native of Odisha but currently residing outside Odisha ( candidate seeking admission in Govt. College of Nursing, and 85% of Govt. quota seats in Private INC /ONMC recognized institutions)
• Be medically fit to undergo the course.
• Loco motor disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% only will be taken into consideration for Physical handicapped category. Candidates are advised to obtain their handicapped certificate from the competent authority of the concerned district.

ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife)

Auxiliary nurse midwife, commonly known as ANM, is a village-level female health worker who is known as the first contact person between the community and the health services. ANMs are regarded as the grass-roots workers in the health organisation pyramid. Maharani Prem Kumari Nursing School offers ANM Course (2 years) to provide safe and effective care to village communities in order to achieve the targets of national health programs of the nation.

Eligibilty Criteria

• Candidates must be completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year in which admission is sought.
• Passed 10+2 from CHSE Odisha or equivalent or,
• Candidates qualify in 10+2 Exams conducted by National Institute of   Open School, (equivalent to CHSE Odisha) are also eligible.      
• ASHA having 10+2 pass is eligible for applying the ANM course.
• Only female candidates are eligible to apply.
• Must have passed minimum M.E. standard Odia for all Govt. school Nursing and 85% Govt. quota seats in private nursing institutions recognized by ONMRC.
• Physically handicapped having loco motor disability of lower limbs from 40% to 50% only will be taken into consideration. Candidates are advised to obtain their handicapped certificate from the competent authority of the concerned district. Candidates more than 50% lower locomotory disability will not be eligible and candidates having any other disability will only be eligible after production of genuine medical board certificate ( i.e. the Medical Board certifying that the applicant is eligible for perusing the Nursing Course ) .
• Shall be medically fit for the course (in appropriate format for the Medical certificate)

Rules & Regulations

• Student should come to the institute with proper uniform.
• Discipline should be maintained inside the campus.
• Mobile phone is strictly prohibited inside the campus during the class hours.
• Ragging is strictly prohibited. If anybody found guilty of any type of ragging such as mental torture, physical assault or using of filthy language, it will be seriously viewed and action deemed as proper will be taken against him/her
• Students are instructed not to throw any polythene bag or waste paper inside the campus.
• No student should damage any furniture and handle each and every article with proper care.
• Students should appear in all examination conducted by the institution in due course.
• A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance in theory and practical in each subject for appearing the examination.
• A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical area before award of degree.
• All students should reach the classroom in time and shall not leave the class without the permission of the teacher.
• Without the permission of the Principal, students shall not organize any activities or associate with any outside group.
