Overview
The town of Kothamangalam is located in Kerala, India, about 50kms to the east of Cochin City. It is known as the ‘Gateway of High Range’ – with a number of distinctive and attractive features of natural beauty as a valley to the nearby hills especially well known tourist place Munnar. Mar Thoma Cheria Pally – had its biggest impact in 13th century due to the arrival of our Patron Saint Yeldho Mar Baselios Bava from Mousel as an ambassador of the Patriarch of Antiochia and the entire East, who served as a missionary to the Gospel.
The Shrine of Yeldho Mar Baselios Bava remains as the centre of Blessing in Mar Thoma Cheria Pally, for all these who comes these seeking a solution for their worries irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The Mar Thoma Cheria Pally is a Christian Jacobite church which is particularly well known for its humanitarian efforts and passionate concern towards the society by managing various institutions within the reach of town. Mar Baselios College of Nursing named after the Saint is under the auspices of Mar Thoma Cheria Pally and is managed by Mar Baselios Medical Mission Association (MBMMA) Kotrhamangalam. The college seeks to be a witness to the healing ministry through excellence in education and service.

Histroy
The Mar BaseliosCollege of Nursing is a Christian minority educational institution established, maintained and administered by the Mar Baselios Medical Mission Association.The College of Nursing with an annual in-take of 60 students for B.Sc. Nursing was started in 2003. The college is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) as well as the Kerala Nursing and Midwifery Council and is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences KUHS.

Vision

  • The motto adopted by Mar Baselios College of Nursing is “The Word is Healing”. This motto drives every activity of the institution in the spirit of Jesus Christ. This Christian conviction helps in preparing compassionate, skilled and caring nursing professionals to meet the health needs of the world at large.

Mission

  • We believe that Nursing profession is both an art and science, based on scientific problem solving approach, rendering comprehensive health care to the society at large. The primary concern of our college is to develop individuals to be compassionate, skilful, ethically sound, academically excellent professionals through education. They will be the providers and leaders in health care, healing both body and mind. The graduates are equipped to render promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care to individuals, families and community.

Objectives
    
Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to

  • Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients that contribute to health of the individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate competency in rendering quality health care and techniques of nursing care.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  • Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
  • Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
  • Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, groups and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationship and frame work.
  • Develop skills in teaching individuals and group in clinical / community health setting /nursing educational institution.
  • Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research finding to improve the quality of care.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills in clinical/community settings.
  • Demonstrate awareness, interests and contribute towards advancement of self and the profession.

The B.Sc. Graduate Nurse Will Be Able To:

  1. Patient centered care: Provide holistic care recognizing individual patient’s preferences, values and needs, that is compassionate, co-ordinated, age and culturally appropriate safe and effective care.
  2. Professionalism: Demonstrate accountability for the delivery of standard-based nursing care as per the Council standards that is consistent with moral, altruistic, legal, ethical, regulatory and humanistic principles.
  3. Teaching & Leadership: Influence the behaviour of individuals and groups within their environment and facilitate establishment of shared goals through teaching and leadership.

Course offered:-

BSc Nursing
B.Sc. Nursing is a four year professional degree programme which leads to the award of Baccalaureate Degree in the faculty of Nursing. The course provides foundations for professional nursing practice, teaching, administration and scientific research methodology.  The program is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and lately to the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. The university conducts annual examinations and successful candidates are awarded B.Sc. Degree in Nursing. A B.Sc. N graduate gets opportunity to work as a clinical nurse, nurse educator, nurse administrator, or clinical research assistant. A graduate can pursue higher studies in various faculties such as Nursing, Administration or Clinical research methods or Nursing informatics. Post graduate diploma programs are available in various specialties such as critical care, cardio thoracic and vascular nursing, gastroenterology and hepatology, oncology , pain and palliative care, orthopedic nursing, trauma care, emergency nursing, geriatric care, neuro nursing, dialysis, neonatal nursing, operation theater technique, transplant units, mental health, and public health nursing. Employment opportunities extends beyond home to global employment opportunity  in hospitals, outpatient clinics, public health sector, private nursing, occupational health sector, travel nursing, disaster nursing and ambulance services.

Admission:-

Govt. Merit seat

  • We have 60 seats for B.Sc. Nursing course and 50% of total seats will be filled up by the government from the list prepared by the Director, LBS centre (www.lbscentre.org) in accordance with merit and reservation principles followed by government of Kerala from time to time.

Management Merit seat

  • 35% of the total seats will be filled from eligible candidate by Association of the Managements of Christian Self Financing Nursing Colleges of Kerala (AMCSFNCK amcsfnck.com) in accordance with merit in the qualifying examination.

NRI seat

  • The remaining 15% of seats may be filled up from eligible students who are children or dependants of Non Resident Indians (NRI).
