WELCOME TO OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL OF NURSING, DHARWAD

Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing is a minority institution. It was stared in the year 2001 under the management of Our Lady of Lourdes Charitable Hospital. The hospital was established on 11th February 1958 by the Sisters of Charity. The school is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and Karnataka Nursing Council. The aim of the School of Nursing is to uplift the poor girls of the various interior places of Karnataka.

HISTORY 

Our Lady of Lourdes, a charitable hospital, had its humble beginning as a small dispensary on 11th February 1958 under the administratorship of Sr. Leonarda Casiraghi, an Italian missionary. The vision of this hospital was 1st conceived in the heart of Miss. Gertrude Fernandez who contributed generously and became the catalyst for this noble project. The institution belongs to the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa.

Though it began as a small pebble, later as the need arose, it expanded to give care for out patients and inpatients. Statistics shows, in the year 2011, the total number of cases treated were 8072 as inpatient and 42,255 as out patients.

It provides all the possible specialty services such as Medical, Surgical, Maternity, Pediatrics, ICU, Orthopedic, Ophthalmology, ENT, OT, X-ray, USG, Laboratory, Causality, Physiotherapy and Blood Bank.

PHILOSPHY

The educators of this school of Nursing believe that the candidates undergoing training in this institution should be individually followed and developed in to mature, responsible persons capable of giving efficient and comprehensive nursing care, curative, preventive and rehabilitative in the hospital, family and community. They should be capable of serving the sick with compassionate love, in the footsteps of Jesus Christ the Redeemer, by the diligent practice of their religion and high standards of nursing education and patient care.

VISSION

Taking the inspiration from Jesus the Divine Healer and Redeemer of Mankind Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing look forward to provide holistic nursing care to the society especially to the poor and downtrodden. It also aims at providing qualitative training in the noblest of profession that is, nursing education to the girls especially those from the rural areas of Karnataka.

The Mission is to

1) Inculcate in the young nurses compassionate love for the humanity.
2) Provide qualitative training to equip them with knowledge, skill and attitude to care for the patients with holistic approach.

OBJECTIVES 

• 1) Meet the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patients and interpret them intelligently.
• 2) Apply scientific principles of knowledge in providing comprehensive health services (Preventive, Promotive, Curative and Rehabilitative) to individuals and groups in the hospital and in the community.
• 3) Demonstrate leadership skills in working as a health team member in the community.
• 4) Gain knowledge about the health resources in the community and country and to render primary health care services in the community and community health centers.
• 5) Strive to emulate the Divine Physician recognizing and serving Him in the persons of the sick.
• 6) Asses the client's need inorder to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care given.
