Nursing is a science and an art. It is, in fact a vocation which harmoniously combines these two aspects while the scientific aspect is of utmost importance, the value of personal touch, understanding and compassion are indispensable in the making of a good nurse. The work of a nurse is no longer confined to bedside duties in hospital wards but extends to public health, teaching and administration too.
The science of nursing has made great strides since the time the Lady with the Lamp ministered to the wounded and sick soldiers in the Crimean battlefield. Today, nursing has become a highly respected and skilled profession, demanding specialized technical knowledge of a high order and dexterity of the part of the practitioner. Alertness, quickness of action, ability to meet complicated situations in a calm and confident manner as well as the power of grasp the rapid advances that are taking place in the profession are other essential attributes of a nurse.
The modern nurse is well-informed about sophisticated equipments used in diagnosis and therapy, latest surgical procedures, intensive care of the severely ill, organ transplant and a host of other complicated and difficult tasks which she may be handing in her daily routine. About the Institute
Rahman Hospitals School of Nursing (RHSON) was established in 2014 to keep up with the pace of rapid advancements in nursing education. The school was established by the management of Rahman Hospitals Pvt. Ltd., an advanced Centre for the Neurological, Neurosurgical, Spinal diseases. Rahman Hospitals School of Nursing uses advance learning methods including Lecture, Discussions and Interactive methods such as Clinical Training, Bedside Clinics, Grand rounds, Practical Demonstration, Power Point Presentations. Dummies and Manikins are additionally used for teaching skills.

GENERAL NURSING AND MIDWIFERY
GNM stands for General Nursing and Midwifery. It is a 3½ years long Diploma program. Academic program is 3 years long and 6 months are dedicated towards internship. OBJECTIVES
GNM Nursing programmes is designed to prepare the students to:
- Assess the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
- Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet nursing needs.
- Apply problem solving techniques in nursing practice.
- Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
- Demonstrate use of ethical values in their personal and professional life.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR GNM NURSING
- Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years. There is no age bar for ANM/LHV
- Minimum education:
- 10+2 class passed preferably Science (PCB) & English with aggregate of 40% marks.
- 10+2 in Arts (Mathematics, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy) and English Core/English Elective or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY, passing out from recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board with 40% marks.
- 10+2 vocational ANM under CBSE Board or other equivalent board with 40% marks.
- Registered as ANM with State Nursing Registration Council.
- Student shall be medically fit.
- Students qualified in 10+2 Arts or Science examination or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY conducted by National Institute of Open School with 40% marks.
- Student shall be admitted once in a year.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
All eligible candidates are required to appear for the written test.
Candidates who are found eligible on preliminary scrutiny of application and other documents will be called for an Written Admission Test to be held at the Rahman Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Radhanagar, Guwahati-23. It has three common sections that are to be attempted by the candidates. These are:
- a) General Knowledge
- b) English
- c) Science
Entrance examination questions will be from the XII standard syllabus and General Knowledge questions will be MCQ type. No Negative Marking. Duration will be 2 hours. There is no provision for re-examination or re-evaluation.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( B.Sc. Nursing )
B.Sc. Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an undergraduate Nursing course. Nursing is a healthcare profession focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life from conception to death. During the course it is taught the nurses that how to work in a large variety of specialties where they work independently and as part of a team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care. Nursing Science is a field of knowledge based on the contributions of nursing scientist through peer reviewed scholarly journals and evidenced-based practice. The duration of the course is four years but it depends on institute to institute as per their rules. The value of the course is an immense and it is job orienting in nature. The course is being provided by many colleges throughout the country.
The course consists of a holistic mixture of classroom lectures and hands on practical sessions. While securing admission, make sure that the institute is recognized by the INC!

OBJECTIVES:
On completion of the four years B.Sc. Nursing program the graduate will be able to:
- Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing care to individuals, families and communities.
- Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors which affect health of individuals and groups.
- Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups & practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
- Demonstrate critical thinking in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
- To provide best possible teaching to the students who are going to be a part of future member of health care delivery system.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR B.SC NURSING:
- The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year in which admission is sought.
- Minimum education:
- o 10+2 class passed with Science (PCB) & English Core/English Elective with aggregate of 45% marks from recognized board under AHSEC/CBSE or other equivalent Board.
- Student shall be medically fit.
- Students appearing in 10+2 examination in Science conducted by National Institute of Open School with 45% marks.
- Student shall be admitted once in a year.
Master of Science in Nursing ( M.Sc. Nursing )
M.Sc. Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing is a postgraduate Academic Nursing course. The Course deals with healthcare profession focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life from conception to death. The duration of M.Sc. in Nursing is mostly of two academic years but it varies from institute to institute. The Course is available both in full time and part time basis.

- Course Duration = 2 Years
- Weeks available per year = 52 weeks
- Vacation = 4 weeks
- Gazetted holidays = 3 weeks
- Examination = 2 weeks
- Available weeks = 43 weeks
- Hours per week = 40
- Hours available per academic year = 1720 (43 weeks x 40 hours)
- Total hours for 2 years = 3440 hours

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR M.SC NURSING:
- The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
- The Minimum education requirements shall be the passing of: B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc. Hons. Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
- The candidate should have undergone in B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
- Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
- Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
