Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing was established in year 2008 in Jammu and was the first institution to offer B.Sc Nursing Course in Jammu Province. The institution is run by Rajiv Gandhi Educational Society (Reg. no. 1828-S of year 1992) it was observed that there is acute shortage of trained professional in Nursing and Paramedical field in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, the state is factually handicapped on account of trained and qualified Nursing manpower, and we are proud to proclaim that the manpower shortage in this sector will definitely be improved to a greater extent by opening of Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing.

Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing is affiliated to University of Jammu, a University of repute established in the year 1969, the student of the college graduating from University of Jammu which is ‘A’ grade certified University by NAAC a National level rating institution of UGC Govt. of India. Further for Hospital and Clinical training the college is affiliated with Govt. Medical College Hospitals Jammu and all its associated Hospitals including recently established Super Specialty Hospital along with ASCOMS Medical College Jammu. The college also arrange visits to Industry and other Hospitals of repute to ensure more exposure.

Finally the students passing out are widely accepted by Hospitals and 100% placed in the institutions of repute.

  • PHILOSOPHY

    Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing believes that nursing is a profession involving excellence in service, education and administration. We respect basic human dignity of individuals irrespective of their background, caste or creed. We believe man is created in the image of God and is worthy of respect. He has Physical, Psychological, Spiritual and Social needs and meeting these needs promotes an integrated and healthy person. We believe that nursing education should be community need based and involve developing critical judgment in providing care at the Preventive, Promotive, Curative and rehabilitative levels.

  • INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE COLLEGE

Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing is built in an eco friendly area which is appropriate for the education. The college has spacious classrooms. The college is built strictly as per the Indian Nursing Council norms. There are laboratories like Preclinical Science Lab, Fundamentals of Nursing Lab, Community Health Nursing Lab, Nutrition Lab, Maternal and Child Health Lab, A V Aids Room. Indoor and Outdoor Sports facility are available for students. Talented and Experienced teaching faculty are available for the overall development of students. A spacious auditorium is available to conduct all the programmes like Fresher’s Party, Farewell Party, Lamp Lighting ceremony, Nurses’ Day celebration and other different activities of the college. A spacious library and reading room which is equipped with huge number of books, Magazines, Journals, Newspapers and other publications of both Indian and Foreign edition is available to sharpen the knowledge of the students.

  • OBJECTIVES OF NURSING PROGRAMME

    1. To provide opportunities which would enable the student to function as an effective individual.

    2. To prepare a professional and technically skilled nurse, competent to give a comprehensive nursing care to individuals, families and communities in sickness and health.

    3. To prepare the student with guidance to take up leadership position in the teaching and the nursing practice in hospitals and community health agencies.

    4. To provide the opportunities and experiences which would enable the student to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationship with professional and nonprofessional personnel.

    5. To provide the student with knowledge and learning experience which would enable him/her as a nurse to function with increasing ability as an effective citizen and a representative of his/her profession.

    6. To provide those experience and opportunities which would enable and motivate the nurse to enlarge his/her capacity for his/her own professional growth and to contribute towards the improvement and growth of nursing.

FROM THE DESK OF CHAIRMAN

The objective of establishing College of Nursing in Jammu-the city of temples is to provide medicare services to the humanity especially the ailing human beings. The scope of these services will continue to enlarge from the present individual level to family and finally the society as a whole. The College of Nursing would offer strong foundation for students to gain advance education in this vital field of Health care. The college in future will also train unemployed youth in various Medical Technologies to combat the higher rate of unemployment in the State to a great extent, keeping in view – the growing demand of trained para-medical staff in and around the country, Rajiv Gandhi Educational Society Jammu decided to establish a Nursing College. After conducting survey, the RGES (Rajiv Gandhi Educational Society) has also observed that their is acute dearth of trained paramedicos especially Nurses in Govt. / Private Medical institutions and even in hospitals, clinics, etc. The state is factually handicapped on account of trained and qualified man power, which will be improved to a certain extent by Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing.

Finally I dedicate this institution to all those students who are willing to opt Nursing as their career and would like to serve the society especially ailing peoples to get rid of the disease they are suffering from. The goal of Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing is to produce professionally sound nurses to face any hardship and challenges of this profession in the field of nursing and may prove themselves better in this noble profession of nursing.

Book Bank

The college has launched the Book Bank facility for the students in addition to the Library which enables students to have access to good number of quality books at very reasonable price.

Teaching Aids

All types of Audio and Video aids are used in rendering the teaching session. To supplement the course Over Head Projectors, LCD Projectors, Slide Projectors. Charts, Posters etc. and other modern equipments are used for teaching.

Seminars/ Debates

College believes that overall development of the student is an effective component for the success of the professional performance. Periodical Seminars, Debates and Guest Lectures are conducted by predominant academicians and professionals.

College provides assistance in providing educational loan for the students who require financial support for the

GENERAL NURSING & MIDWIFERY (GNM)

GNM is a diploma course offered by J&K Paramedical & Nursing Council. The duration of the course is 3 years.

ELIGIBILITY

a. Should have passed 10th & 12th examination conducted by the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education or any Examination recognized as equivalent there to

b. Should have secured not less than 45% marks in the intermediate examination or equivalent examination. In case of SC & ST candidates, it shall be not less than 40% of Marks

  • 1. Age limit for admission: A candidate for admission into General Nursing & Midwifery should have completed 17 years and should not be more than 35 years on 31st December of year of admission.
  • 2. Sex: Female/Male
  • 3. Educational Qualifications
  • 4. The candidate should possess good health, mental and moral character

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED

  • 1. 10th & 12th original certificates with 2 set of Photostate copies
  • 2. State Domicile/ Nationality Certificate
  • 3. Caste Certificate should be submitted if belongs to SC / ST.
  • 4. Twelve passport size photographs
  • 5. Transfer Certificate & Migration Certificate (for candidates who have completed their qualifying examination from outside J&K State Board).
  • 6. Conduct/Character Certificate
  • 7. Health fitness certificate.
