Lourde College of Nursing, a division of Lourde Education Academy is situated at Taliparamba in Kannur District in a serene and salubrious neighborhood and is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council and is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences.. It is established in the year 2006 and managed by KANATE FOUNDATION, which is a public Charitable Trust. Chairman of the Trust is Dr KJ Devasia, and Dr Joseph Benaven its executive trustee. Director of the College is Mrs. Rakhi Joseph and Prof. Mr. Senthilkumar.T the Principal.

Taliparamba is the nearest town which is 2 km away from the College and Kannur is the nearest railway station which is 25 km away from the College. The College through its state of the art infrastructure, well experienced and dedicated team of teaching and non-teaching staff is committed to excellence in nursing education. Great emphasis is laid on the overall development of students apart from the need to excel in academics with sound clinical acumen – for the same, special English Language & Personality Development classes are being organized. KANATE FOUNDATION

Kanate Foundation is the Charitable Trust envisioned to meet the educational demands of people in and around Taliparramba Taluk in Kannur District. Lourde Hospital is the fountain of Kanate Foundation established in 1960 and serving the local community for last six decades. Lourde Education Academy is the education arm of Kanate Foundation largely serving for last 20 years in the field of Medical Education; Lourde Education System is committed to distinction in teaching and researches for the enhancement of the learning experience of the students and motto their epics Nurturing Excellence and Fostering Compassion.

Lourde College of Nursing faculty believes that human beings are holistic and live in an ever-changing environment. We believe that nursing has a significant role in the society that values the maintenance and improvement of the health of people along a positive continuum. It is concerned with continual development of the intellect through knowledge and understanding from the substantive contact in the nursing curriculum along with other disciplines.

Professional nursing is a practice of discipline with an academic foundation that focuses on health. Building on the study of the biological, physical nursing develops theories and conduct research to improve practice. We prepare the nurses to function in community and institutional nursing service, graduate nurses to function at the first level positions and have a foundation for continuing professional developments.

The nursing knowledge from clinical experience forms the basic and keeps them in path with scientific advancement and aids in utilizing modern technology to make judgment in clinical situations. Hey prepare them to work as a professional nurse who is a member of the health team with members from various other disciplines, consult, support and work to meet the special needs of individual clients.

GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)

ELIGIBILITY : 10 +2 with 40% marks in any stream
COURSE DETAILS: The GNM programme is designed for beginning level positions in the community and institutional nursing services. The students are prepared to take up the responsibility as health team members in the health care delivery system.

Our college of nursing is the training ground for B.Sc (N) students to develop their professional and technical skills in Nursing before stepping into the Clinical practice at bedside. Nutrition Laboratory

The lab is spacious and well - equipped with adequate number of utensils. The area is used by the wards for their nutrition practical and \ or demonstration skills.

Nursing Foundations

The Nursing Foundation Lab is the practical area of the students, where they perform all nursing procedures on manikins prior to the exposure to the clinical field. The set up aims at helping the students to acquire knowledge, understanding and develop skill in techniques of nursing procedures and prepares them to practice them in clinical setting. For all these, we have well equipped lab with 10 beds, manikins for performing and practice of various invasive procedures including IV Cannulation and Infusion.

Anatomy Laboratory

The candidates are provided an excellent opportunity to learn human body and systems by spending real time demonstration of the axial skeleton, disarticulated human bones, and learning from plethora of wet specimens arranged in the laboratory. Moreover, a number of charts and models add to the imparting of right medical education.

Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing Laboratory

The Department lab is equipped with adequate number of mannequins with advanced options that help to amalgamate classroom teaching with skill learning successfully. The students are trained in the laboratory to acquire skills as per the syllabus and their compliance is ensured using the competency check list.

Community Health Nursing Laboratory

This lab is set up with articles for preparing nursing students to deliver health care to people in urban and rural communities. Our CHN Lab offers a view of spectrum of community (Models, charts) which helps the students to identify and solve health problems in the community through innovative and effective strategies of primary health care. Highlights of the lab are: 1. Community health care bags with instruments. 2. Models such as PHC, CHC etc. 3. A. V. Aids (Charts and posters) for health talk, health exhibitions and other awareness programs on different topics like MCH, Communicable and non-communicable diseases etc.

Child Health Nursing Laboratory

Separate MCH lab facility is available, and it has adequate equipment in order to improve the clinical skills of the students, where students gain a first-hand experience before they are posted in the clinical area. This laboratory provides students the opportunity to learn and practice in a realistic and risk-free environment. These experiences offer invaluable opportunities to enrich and enhance learning as well as increase student confidence.

Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing Laboratory

The lab is designed for students to appreciate the concepts and principles of midwifery and obstetrical nursing. It helps students to acquire knowledge and skills in rendering nursing services to normal and high risk pregnant women in hospital and community settings. It also helps to develop skills in managing normal and high risk neonates and participate in family welfare programmes. This laboratory provides firsthand experience in assessment of Antenatal case, Intranatal case, Postnatal case, Neonatal assessment and demonstration of nursing care and handling problems accordingly.

Computer Lab

A well equipped computer lab is set for the students to have access to the unlimited source of knowledge from online journals and other educative web portals.

Audio – Visual Aids Laboratory

Our College of Nursing possess a well maintained latest Audio Visual equipment like Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Projectors, Slide Projectors, Overhead Projectors, VCD Player, VCR and Colour Television, DVD Player, Puppets, Chart, Posters and Models.

2. LIBRARY

Well furnished central library is housed separately in the middle of the campus along with auditorium. It has the seating capacity of 150 students at a time with 2750 Sqft. The Library is stocked with more than 3500 books of current Nursing and Medical titles and subscribes to about 20 National and International Journals.

3. AUDITORIUM \ EXAMINATION HALL

The college is also fortunate to have a specious contemporary auditorium with 4000 Sqft for conducting Curricular and co-curricular official meetings and has the capacity to accommodate 700 audiences at time. This auditorium is also housed for a well furnished examination hall as per KUHS recommendations with confidential room and CCTV surveillance.

4. HOSTEL FACILITES

Two separate, well furnished hostels for girls are available which is spacious and well ventilated. Students are given purified water, hygienically prepared and high quality vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The hostel has a Visitors’ Lounge, Study Hall, Prayer Hall , facilities for Indoor Games, Magazine and newspaper reading and Television.

5. SPORTS FACILITIES

The college provides sports and recreation facilities for the students .The sports facilities include outdoor games like Hand Ball, Tennikoit, Shuttle Badminton, cricket and indoor games like Caroms and Chess. There is also a large play ground for athletic and field events like running, shot put, Javeline and Discuss throw. Zumba and karate classes are organized twice weekly for aspirants in order to improve physical Health with free of cost by the Management.

6.PRAYER HALL

The campus has its own prayer hall situated at the centre of the Institution. The spiritual activities are :

• Annual retreat for catholic students
• Spiritual activity group of the campus organizes prayer meeting on daily basis.

7. TRANSPORT FACILITIES

Our Institute has three buses of its own for transport to and from the hostel and college and for outreach services and observational visits for students .
