Nurses play a pivotal role in the Health Care System. Nursing, a Health Science discipline requires creativity in its delivery. The art of nursing lies in the application of concepts and principles of nursing theory to the design of individualized care using the nursing process. The essence of nursing is to provide evidence based care to clientele in the performance of those activities that contribute to prevention of illnesses, promotion of health, resolution of illness, or end of life.
Nursing is a calling, a calling for service to humanity. The objective of Nursing revolves around nurturing, caring & rendering health services to an individual, family and the community at large. Bhagirathi Surya Naik Memorial Trust, a service oriented society, took a wise step to achieve this objective and that is how Vrundavan Institute of Nursing Education became a reality in the year 2005.
Vrundavan Institute of Nursing Education, a centre for academic excellence, is an established machinery to generate such highly qualified professionals needed for the delivery of high tech health care services. Education and learning is a continuous process involving cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. Personal growth and self discovery in the learning process are enhanced in a conducive environment that stimulates curious examination of world. The process of learning involves student teacher partnership and co-operation in meeting student and program goa1s. The faculty provides learning opportunities and guidance appropriate to personal and professional growth.

Vrundavan Institute of Nursing Education located at Colvale, Goa is owned and managed by Bhagirathi Surya Naik Memorial Trust and is affiliated to Goa University, Goa. Dr. Digambar Naik is the founder Chairman of this trust. The college offers 4 years B. Sc Nursing Degree program recognized by Goa Nursing Council, and Indian Nursing Council. Qualified and experienced faculty in Nursing plans and implements the education program based on the guidelines provided by Indian Nursing Council and the University. The program encompasses Class Room teaching, a supervised Clinical Practice, Community Health Nursing Programs, and Attitude & Value building having multi- dimensional approach.

Class Room Study

  • Taps, the cognitive domain: enables students to develop basic concepts in Nursing, Medical Sciences, and Humanities using modern teaching techniques.

Hands on

  • A supervised clinical practice: complements theory with practical knowledge for developing professional skills. The students are placed in various clinical specialty areas in the Health Care organizations under the able guidance of well qualified nursing faculty to achieve greater degree of patient care skills.

Beyond Hospital

  • Community Health Nursing: a community based program involves rendering health care services to under-privileged section of the society using preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative model for nursing practice. The students are exposed to Rural as well as urban areas for Primary Health Care Services offered by the Government establishments.

Experiential Learning

  • Out of the Class Room Exercises: Attitude Development, Value Building, and Self Development, an 'Add On Program' is formally and informally inculcated into the students through various curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • To sum up, the undergraduate nursing program is directed to the development of critical thinking abilities and competencies in practice of professional nursing General and Midwifery as envisaged in National Health Policy 2002.
  • The program prepares the graduates to be exemplary citizens by following code of conduct and professional ethics at all times. Besides, Attitude Development and value Building crystallizes the persona of students and grooms them to earn special recognition as a member of professional fraternity.

Scope

On completion of undergraduate program in nursing, the student qualifies for 1st level position as a professional nurse in any Health Care Organisation, Educational, Establishment, and/or Community Health Care Agencies.

  • The candidate also qualifies for an entry into Post Graduate program in Nursing or specialized short-term courses in the Clinical Specialty areas of her/his choice.

  • With increase in demand for well qualified professional nurses overseas, the students, after fulfilling the pre-requisites, qualify for placement abroad.

  • The choices available for carrier development are:
    • Military Nursing
    • Clinical Specialization
    • Research in Nursing

  • We believe that quality of nursing service is correlated with the standard of nursing education based on sound educational principles. We recognize that the formal education is a means of laying foundation for professional nursing practice.
  • Education is a process of refinement in consciousness which is reflected as change in behaviour. It is enhanced by incorporating knowledge from Medical, Behavioural, Biological and Physical sciences in the context of sequentially planned structured curriculum and conducive learning environment.
  • We also believe that each individual student has one's own persona and that, each one varies in his/her capabilities, interest, cognitive abilities and skills. And that, each one has potential to grow on the life continuum. We as teaching faculty acknowledge and accept our responsibilities to provide maximum opportunities to students for their Professional, Psycho-social, Physical, and Life Skill development.

Aim

  • To prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as competent professional nurses and/or midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
  • To prepare graduates to function as responsible health team members with beginning proficiency for leadership either in delivery of health care systems, education establishment, or community based programs.

The Vrundavan Institute of Nursing Education takes pride in developing a nurse who:

  • is professionally skilled to provide need based health care services to clientele either in the hospital or community,
  • provides delivery of health care services based on problem solving approach using Nursing process as a model,
  • demonstrates competency in providing nursing care based on concepts and principles of Behavioral, Biological, Physical and Medical Sciences,
  • practices and advocates others to strictly adhere to standards in delivery of nursing services,
  • demonstrates responsibility and accountability in promoting standards of nursing practice,

  • is aware of moral and ethical values and practices them in her personal and professional life,
  • critiques nursing research studies in various settings and utilizes the research findings to improve patient care, and
