About Us

The Institute was founded in the year 2011 as the first Public Private Partnership (PPP mode) Engineering Institute in the state of Assam under the aegis of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society, a registered service organization set up in the year 1992 to make significant contribution for social upliftment through education and also to inculcate among the youth a sense of discipline.

The motto of the Society is “Truth, Discipline & Excellence” and ever since its inception its aim has been to establish a morally sound educational system which not only produces competent professionals but also excellent human beings contributing towards the welfare of the Society. Towards this, the institute has introduced a broad based mentoring system to guide / counsel the students to improve their performance in all spheres of activities in the institute.

The Institute was established with due approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) – New Delhi and necessary permission from the State Government. The Institute is also recognized under section 2(f) of the UGC Act. 1956.

The first session of the Institute commenced on 16th August 2011 with 140 students in three disciplines leading to the Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (CE), Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Electrical Engineering (EE) respectively. The day 16th August is also being celebrated as the Foundation Day of the college.

GIMT’s USP is its ‘High-end infrastructure and competent & experienced faculty’.

Since August 2013, the institute has also been affiliated to newly created university by the Government of Assam named ‘Assam Science & Technology University’. All admissions since August 2013 have been conducted under Assam Science & Technology University.

I am indeed delighted to present before you the mission and vision of GIMT-Tezpur which earned quite a good name in the field of technical education since its establishment on 16th August, 2011. Being the first engineering institute established under PPP mode in the region it has been producing disciplined and competent engineers with sound technical knowledge who are full of confidence to become global pioneers of tomorrow.

As we know, engineers play the most vital and important role in nation building. They are the one who create new inventions using best engineered technologies to make human life comfortable, secured and productive. Today in the era of privatisation and globalisation, we try to groom and nourish our students in such a way that they are fully equipped to meet the global demand.

In its early stage itself GIMT-Tezpur has shown the brightest amongst all the technical institutes of north-eastern region, the university results of last few years speak of the same.

To ensure quality education and services from our end, we adhere to a high degree of academic and campus discipline. I appeal to the students as well as the guardians to take note of this. To my belief, class attendance and participation is very important.

GIMT-Tezpur established in the year 2011 with the vision “to produce competent, disciplined and quality engineers and administrators having the drive, skill and confidence to become the pioneer of tomorrow”. This is the first engineering college of North-East under PPP mode by Govt. of Assam and Shrimanta Shankar Academy, offering three core engineering streams for study, namely Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Mechanical Engineering.

It is due to the untiring and dedicated efforts of our faculty and staff that we have been able to secure for ourselves a pride of place in the technical education scenario of the state and the region. The institute has excellent laboratory facilities in all the departments. With our focus on outcome-based approach, led by a team of dedicated faculty members with in-depth knowledge and experience, aided by excellent infrastructural facilities and with a spirit of maintaining high level academic discipline in the campus, we continue to march ahead in the path of academic excellence.
